Seventh Dumassas Legionnaires
Formed 2765
Nickname Rimward Regulars[1]
Affiliation Taurian Concordat
Parent Command IV Corps

Formed during the Star League era, the Seventh Dumassas Legionnaires was one of a number of commands that comprised a part of the rebuilt IV Corps.

History[edit]

In contrast with the other Corps that began rebuilding in earnest after the repeal of the Council Edict of 2650, the "new" IV Corps was rebuilt using units that had no links to those formations that had fought under the IV Corps banner during the Reunification War.[1]

The revitalized IV Corps began with the expansion of the Taurian Concordat during the colonization efforts of the Star League era, during which a number of worlds were settled in the region of the Concordat that became known as the Dumassas Union. The Concordat traditionally founded settlements that included the creation of local militia forces to protect the settlers against pirate activity, and when these local militias received BattleMechs, two of the local militias managed to reorganize themselves into new units, the Dumassas Legionnaires. The Seventh was one of these units.[1]

The Seventh Dumassas Legionnaires and a sister regiment, the First, formed from militias within the Dumassas Union that reorganized themselves; the other two sister regiments to be active within IV Corps by 2765, the Fourth and Twelfth mustered from worlds outside the Dumassas Union but were subsequently moved into the Union.[1]

The Seventh's origins as a planetary militia presented a number of problems; its equipment was initially amongst the oldest still in service in the Taurian Defense Force, with an abundance of old designs such as the Locust, Talos, and Wasp within the regiment, with many of the 'Mechs dating back to the Reunification War even if the regiment itself didn't.[1]

Like the other regiments of IV Corps, the Seventh suffered a steady stream of equipment losses as a result of attrition inflicted via a combination of raider activity, hazardous operating environments and poor quality equipment. This didn't begin to change until 2764, when the First Dumassas Legionnaires reached its lowest ebb, dropping below fifty percent operational readiness; this proved a pivotal moment, forcing the TDF to being taking the problems that plagued IV Corps seriously. Although the TDF rerouted two battalions of new BattleMechs that had been destined for II Corps to IV Corps and to the First in particular, the Seventh and her sister regiments continued to be plagued with low morale and discipline problems due to the lack of operational equipment or the poor condition of much of the equipment that was operational, making the various commands fertile ground for other nations to try and recruit clandestine sources of intelligence.[1]
