BattleTechWiki:2012 Founder's Awards

As has become tradition on SarnaBTW, January is the time to look back at the past year and find out who should be given a Founder's Award for outstanding service to the wiki.

2012 Founder's Awards[edit]

Yet another great year of amazing writing and collaboration. We had nearly 2,000 new articles created, which is an accomplishment for how thorough the content on BTW already is. Not to mention there were 48,000 page edits. Wow! Nicjansma (talk) 14:10, 16 March 2013 (PDT)

Recipients:

2012 Nominations[edit]

Please post your nominations for the various Founder's awards here for discussion. Post not only the Editor's or Admin's name, but also why you feel that person should be the awardee. Nominations will close on the 31st of January, with Nicjansma announcing after he has made his decisions. Negative responses are not solicited, as these are only for nominations.

Five out of the six Founder's Awards are up for nomination; the Founder's Consistent Service Award is completely left up to User:Nicjansma. The criteria/descriptions of the awards can be found here.

Please post your nominations under the appropriate sub-heading.

Clarification: All users are welcome to voice their opinions and nominate others or even themselves for the awards. You don't have to be an admin to take part in this community action.

Founder's Outstanding Member of the Year Award[edit]

  • BrokenMnemonic - need I say more? He only joined the BTW project in late 2011 and has been a consistent and diligent worker here from day one. In 2012, he was probably the one outstanding editor here whose contributions stood out most. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded.--Mbear(talk) 03:42, 16 January 2013 (PST)
  • Frabby - Frabby will likely win the Founder's Consistent Service Award (deservedly), but I just wanted to say what an outstanding job he's done, keeping the day-to-day admin going, deleting spam bot accounts, answering questions, resolving problems, and overall doing a fantastic job stepping up when real life took Rev from us. From all of us - Thanks! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 22:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
I nominate Frabby for the above listed reasons, as well as in return for nominating me!--Raven 2C (talk) 11:10, 16 January 2013 (PST)
I think nothing is more to say. I nominate BrokenMnemonic.--Doneve (talk) 15:39, 16 January 2013 (PST)

Founder's Superior Editor of the Year Award[edit]

  • Doneve and Wrangler, who both continue to soldier on with a staggering output, doing the thankless task of formatting or updating edits to scores and scores of articles. They continue to be among our most reliable workhorses. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded.--Mbear(talk) 03:44, 16 January 2013 (PST)
  • Mbear, Cyc, LittleWolf, who all have a huge pile of meaningful contributions here in 2012, filtering out minutiae from various sources to add them to equally numerous articles. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST) And of course Dmon. Not sure how I could forget him. Frabby (talk) 03:00, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Scaletail - BTW's longest-standing editor and admin is still here, and is still diligently admining and editing merrily along. If he doesn't get a Founder's Award then he definitely deserves a consistent service award. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:12, 17 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded... that's three of us including Mbear. --Rebs (talk) 16:11, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Thirded. Doneve continues to plug away here, day in and day out, making a huge contribution across a vast range of subjects. He willingly seizes on grunt work that needs doing - like changing the planets pages to use the new Planet and System infoboxes - using his own initiative and churns through vast quantities of edits.BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:12, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Mbear, who seems to single-handedly battle the ever-increasing burden that is the Updates Needed category. Mbear churns through a wide range of sources providing concise, cogent updates to bring Sarna as up to date as possible across what seems to be at least a couple of dozen articles a day. In addition to doing this, he's also more than willing to craft new and increasingly complicated templates for anyone who asks, and by performing this complex work allowing others to make improvements and present information more consistently and efficiently. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:12, 17 January 2013 (PST)

Founder's Superior Writer of the Year Award[edit]

  • BrokenMnemonic, whose articles and edits frequently are of superb quality. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
  • ClanWolverine101 also has produced a large number of big, meaningful edits in 2012, and created articles of excellent quality. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
  • I nominate BrokenMnemonic & ClanWolverine101, nothing more to say, Frabby hit the nail.--Doneve (talk) 13:41, 15 January 2013 (PST)
I second this as well. Among their many accomplishments, one has greatly increased this wiki's Jihad and Star League era content with flawless and near-flawless articles and major edits, which are each tremendous tasks. The other has done outstanding work on articles about and related to the Wolf's Dragoons, a marquee unit that is a faction unto itself. --Rebs (talk) 17:34, 16 January 2013 (PST)
  • BrokenMnemonic and Rebs give me hope for the future of the wiki, with superb articles of professional quality. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 22:47, 15 January 2013 (PST)
I think any of these authors would be an excellent recipient.--Mbear(talk) 06:00, 16 January 2013 (PST)

Founder's Exceptional Ambassador of the Year Award[edit]

  • Mbear, for his friendly and reliable ever-presence on the BT forums where he even allows himself to be humiliated and flogged for errors on Sarna. :) And generally, for being a great ambassador there for our site. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
This past Memorial day, I was at a gaming con. A guy ran an all-day BT campaign - so much fun. At the end of the day, I mentioned I contributed to a BT wiki, and he said "Oh - like Sarna?" I credit people like Mbear for that exchange. :) ClanWolverine101 (talk) 22:41, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Heh - nice story. Thanks for sharing. :) Frabby (talk) 05:34, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Nominate our infobox expert, i can say more but this is to long.--Doneve (talk) 16:06, 16 January 2013 (PST)
I read one of the threads of which Frabby speaks. Mbear took some hard lumps like an elemental and still offered surkairede for the flaws of the past. A great diplomat. --Rebs (talk) 17:55, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Definitely agreed. Mbear acts with great grace under fire and in so doing improves Sarna's reputation amongst a large chunk of what should perhaps be our core audience. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:14, 17 January 2013 (PST)

Founder's Honorable Mention Award[edit]

  • Besides all of those mentioned above, Raven2C has made a good showing and deserves an acknowledgement of his work here. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded. Proofreading and excellent copyedits are crucial to proper quality control of content. --Rebs (talk) 18:03, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Thirded.BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Neuling, another workhorse contributor. I note his contributions suddenly and inexplicably ended on 13 October 2012 though. Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded. Neuling often adds a lot of data quickly to Sarna in areas where none existed before. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Revanche, valued long-time contributor and admin, was very prolific until circumstances outside his control forced a wikibreak on him in May 2012; since then, he has only contributed a single edit (in November). Hope you'll be back, man! Frabby (talk) 12:38, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Revanche we miss you, support your nomination, please come back.--Doneve (talk) 16:35, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 22:34, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Thirded. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
Fourthed. At the very least, his encouragement and passion for Sarna helped rope me and others into contributing. --Rebs (talk) 07:33, 17 January 2013 (PST)
Thank you all very much.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:47, 8 February 2013 (PST)
  • Rebs, he was the one and only to push up the Clan Charater category, with a lot of new clan bios, and cleand up some articles, i nominate him.--Doneve (talk) 13:40, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded. I haven't interacted with Rebs much because our interests within BattleTech lie in different areas, but Rebs has made a huge contribution to the Clain areas of the wiki, filling in large gaps and, best of all, making sure I don't have to tackle the Clan articles here any time soon! BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Mbear -- If nothing else, he created the new "Conflict Infobox" that will have an impact on this wiki for years to come. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 10:54, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded - at the very least, Mbear deserves an honorable mention award. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Dmon, why i forgot this guy, he took a great deal to bring up Sarna in the last years by his edits.--Doneve (talk) 15:57, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • S.gage, i hope all is well with his, when his health is stable, he is with us over many years, and make great contribs., in my heart iam with you, i want Steven become this Award , and i hope some other contributors support this, i don't say anymore.--Doneve (talk) 15:57, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded. S.gage continues to try and contribute even in the face of incredible personal adversity. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • LittleWolf for contributing lots of new articles, edits and additions as mentioned elsewhere. I would also cite his willingness to work on large projects like the Clan Coyote overhaul. --Rebs (talk) 18:29, 16 January 2013 (PST)
  • Frabby, who seems to be stuck in an endless game of whack-a-mole with an unending tide of spammers, but still finds time to get involved in defining policies and requirements whilst continuing to act as a strong advocate for Sarna in other areas of the web. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Volt, whose work on calculating accurate, verifiable coordinates for systems was a huge contribution to the planets project that removed erroneous coordinates going back up to thirty years. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded. I read his posts here and at CBT about trouble with the original coordinate system. Fasa and the others since then could not get it working right, but this guy did figure it out. That's pretty impressive. --Rebs (talk) 07:33, 17 January 2013 (PST)
Thirded.--Doneve (talk) 09:26, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • ClanWolverine101, whose data-mining sprees through sourcebooks pulling out even the smallest details to interconnect articles or further flesh out historical details help make Sarna articles as comprehensive as possible. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2013 (PST)
Seconded, CW101 logs in every night and does something to move forward with plans, while cooking larger articles to perfection. Also, he's been helpful about various policy and issues that crop up with BT writing in general. --Rebs (talk) 21:12, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • rubs his hands together evilly like Maximillian Liao back in the day.* Plaaaaaans. *evil grin* Heh - just kidding. Thanks. Honest - I have a list. I am working down the list in an order that makes sense only to my imaginary cat. I am thankful for everyone's support, particularly Mbear who puts up with my Update Needed tags. Thanks! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 11:11, 18 January 2013 (PST)
  • Seth, upps I forget Seth, he do some beautiful SemanticWike work on Sarna, he is my man for this award, take a look on his contributions.--Doneve (talk) 17:59, 17 January 2013 (PST)
  • Cyc and Neufeld ...at the very, very least, these two (along with BrokenMnemonic and Doneve) helped to quickly straighten out a most regretable mix-up regarding Barbara and Dianne Sennet. Amongst other contributions. --Rebs (talk) 21:20, 17 January 2013 (PST)
