Clan Blood Spirit Touman

The Clan Blood Spirit touman is the military arm of Clan Blood Spirit.

Unit Structure[edit]

As set forth by Nicholas Kerensky, Clan Blood Spirit has maintained practically the same Cluster format since the doctrine's inception: Five Clusters of three BattleMech Trinaries, one Combat Vehicle Trinary and one Infantry Trinary.[1] The only differences they have made in the several centuries since that time is the replacement of conventional infantry and BattleMechs with Elementals and OmniMechs. They maintain this organization for both front-line and second-line Clusters, and will not hesitate to downgrade or disband one if it no longer adheres to that structure. They look at the other Clans with disdain for abandoning this doctrine, and for introducing new Cluster variants, as a sign they have turned their backs upon Kerensky's mandate. OmniFighters are held within the Naval Reserve and assigned to units on an as-needed basis.[2]

Touman structure[edit]

The fighting of the mid to late thirty-first century, particularly the Burrock Absorption of 3059, was utterly disastrous for the Blood Spirits. Prior to the Absorption, the Clan fielded five front-line Galaxies (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Kappa and Omega), along with six second-line Galaxies (Mu, Rho, Omicron, Sigma, Tau and Upsilon). The Absorption cost them three front-line and two second-line Galaxies, while gaining them nothing except a powerful foe in Clan Star Adder.[3] Although the Spirits did attempt to rebuild and even raised a new Galaxy through a Harvest Trial, worse was yet to come.[4] Two Galaxies were wiped out when the Star Adders bombarded York in 3074[5] and lost a further three Galaxies later that year fighting the Adders on Tokasha.[6] It was estimated that by 3076 they had lost over half of their warriors[7] and could field only ten Clusters.[8]

The Spirits were known to often rotate their Clusters between Galaxies in the hope of confusing an enemy to their exact strength.[9] Such a "Shell Game" was carried out in 3069 with Clusters moved one at a time from York to other holdings.[10]

The touman stood at six Galaxies in 3060[11] and by 3067 it had grown to seven Galaxies.[12] By 3084 it was reduced to four Galaxies, and by the end of that year had been completely destroyed. During the last few desperate months of the Clan it raised several poorly armed civilian Clusters, although these were quickly destroyed in combat.[13]

Uniforms and Rank Insignia[edit]

Field Uniform

The field uniform is black with red padded ribbing on the outside of each forearm and outside of the ribcage. Impact resistant polymer molded into a semihard shell completely surrounds the neck and shoulders, and flows into a V-shape just below the sternum. A full-head helmet with a retractable visor attaches to the shell. Sturdy black boots complete the uniform.[14]

Dress Uniform

A tight-fitting blood-red bodysuit sheaths the warrior from banded neck to the glossy knee-high black boots. A liquid-like red strip runs from the neck down to the left side of the body. A reversible black and red half-cape attaches to the shoulders. Only trueborns can wear the cape.[14]

Ceremonial Uniform

The ceremonial uniform is a loose-fitting, blood-red jumpsuit, tucked into calf-high red boots. A large cloak encases the torso and opens up to the waist. Voluminous sleeves flow down the arms. A deep cowl is worn on the wearer's head with a blood-red glass mask covers the face from brow to chin. Only Bloodnamed warriors can wear the uniform.[14]
