The Cogdell system was home to at least one habitable world, Cogdell IV, and as of 3145 was located in the Anjin Muerto Operational Area of the Periphery March within the Federated Suns.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

The Cogdell system is located near the Morven and Summerstide systems[2][3] and consists of a class G5V primary orbited by at least four planets.[1]

System History[edit]

The Cogdell system was settled prior to the Third Succession War but didn't become significant enough to record on maps until later.[1][4][5]

Cogdell IV - more commonly referred to simply as Cogdell - is the fourth planet in the system.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Cogdell was one of the few worlds in the Inner Sphere whose governmental structure is based on anarchic ideas. Originally "settled" by a group of convicts who were exported to the world by a Periphery world, the colonists were able to survive and form a rudimentary government whose only law was "live and let live".[1]

Absorbed by the Federated Suns shortly before the start of the Third Succession War, one of the prominent families on Cogdell was selected by the Ministry of Ways and Means as the ruling family. This family eventually grew pro-Davion, pro–Federated Suns, and pro-government. The resulting tensions between the noble family's supporter and the general population exploded into violence in 3025.[1]

In February, 3072 Cogdell was one of the planets that joined the breakaway Filtvelt Coalition.[24] By 3135 Cogdell later returned to the Federated Suns control.[28]

Military Deployment[edit]

Geography[edit]

Cogdell is a world possessed of considerable quantities of potable water, flourishing forests and rich farmland.[30]

The information after this notice comes from apocryphal sources; the canonicity of such information is uncertain.
Please view the reference page for information regarding their canonicity.

The database of the (apocryphal) 1989 video game MechWarrior, set around the year 3025, gives a population of 1.536 billion for Cogdell and describes the environment as "tropical" (out of only three broad impressions of planetary environments given in the game, these being "desert," "ice," and "tropical").
