The Dynasty Guard were one of the key regiments of the Capellan Hussars. In addition to functioning as a line unit, they were also responsible for the protection of the extended Liao family and members of the Sheng nobility.[1]

History[edit]

Formation[edit]

The Dynasty Guards were the only unit in the Capellan Hussars brigade who didn't have a tie to an older unit. Despite this, the Dynasty Guard was created at the same time as the Liao Commonality, and in addition to their normal defensive duties they were assigned to protect members of the Sheng nobility who weren't under the protection of other Capellan Hussar units.[2] In 3063 they were stationed on Liao.[3]

Operation Guerrero[edit]

Operation Bulldog[edit]

Xin Sheng Campaign[edit]

The Dynasty Guard was the only unit from the Capellan Hussars brigade to accept units equipped with Stealth Armor. The Dynasty Guard also ran down the Blackwind Lancers. The Lancers had landed on Highspire and traded long range fire with elements of the Dynasty Guard before retreating off-world. The Dynasty Guard sent a battalion of 'Mechs and vehicles after them, and with the support of Hell's Black Aces and caught up to the Lancers on Chesterton. There the Guard's First and Third Battalions formed several augmented lances, pinned the Lancers in place, and inflicted heavy losses on the Lancer's Third Battalion.[4] The arrival of Lancer reinforcements forced the Guard to withdraw to Capellan space.[5] They were stationed on Liao in 3067.[6]

Jihad[edit]

The Dynasty Guard fought AFFS and Word of Blake forces during Operation SOVEREIGN JUSTICE and during the Jihad. All of these conflicts took place on Liao. Returning this world to the Confederation removed the stain on the Dynasty Guard's honor for losing the world in the Fourth Succession War.[7]

Every unit sent to Liao was defeated by the Dynasty Guard, including the 8th Syrtis Fusiliers. They were also in the forefront of Operation GOLDEN FORTRESS, destroying three Clusters of Clan Nova Cat forces and inflicting heavy damage on other units as the CCAF drove towards Tikonov. Though successful, these constant combat operations reduced the Dynasty Guard to a battalion of effectives.

The unit was still assigned to Liao in 3079.[8]

The Republic counterstrike forced the understrength unit off their ancestral homeworld, and 3085 found them rebuilding on Capella.[9]

Dark Age[edit]

The Dynasty Guard was sent to reinforce the Holdfast Guard and Death Commandos on Liao in October 3111.[10] They engaged the V Hastati Sentinels[11] and IX Hastati Sentinels alongside the Red Lancers. The Dynasty Guard seized the HungLi Military Base and took two coastal cities: Desu and Duan. In May 3113 the Amaterasu, Fifth Hastati, and Ninth Hastati were joined by Stone's Lament. The Republic troops forced the Dynasty Guards and Red Lancers off of Liao.[12]

In 3134 the 2nd McCarron's Armored Cavalry sent several detachments to Liao. There they coordinated their strikes with the local population to overthrow the 5th Principes Guards and 5th Triarii Protectors, both units of The Republic of the Sphere. The Dynasty Guard arrived a few weeks later and engaged the Fifth Principes Guards outside Metauque Township. Though they inflicted a great deal of damage on the Fifth, the Dynasty Guard didn't push their attack.[13] Shortly thereafter they attacked the DropPort at Hussan and drove the defending Liao Republic Standing Guard away from the facility.[14]

During Operation CELESTIAL REWARD in 3144[15] the Dynasty Guard faced the 1st Syrtis Fusiliers on Avigait. The Guard shattered the Fusiliers by sending in several headhunter units to disrupt the Fusilier command structure.[16] These attacks were successful and forced the Fusiliers to retreat.[15]

In November 3147 aerospace forces attached to the Dynasty Guards attacked and crippled two DropShips attached to the AFFS' Fortune Able mercenary unit over Taygeta. This forced the Dawn Guards to attack the Dynasty Guards' positions alone.[17] Eventually the Fortune Able mercenary troops joined up with the Dawn Guards and put pressure on the Dynasty Guard positions in the capital city. The Guard, supported by Warrior House Tsang Xiao, held out for several days before being ordered off-world by Daoshen Liao on December 5.[18]

The Dynasty Guard relocated to New Syrtis after leaving Taygeta. They defended the Capellan planetary government facility, which had been placed in the former Hasek family mansion. Sang-shao Zhao ordered her troops to hold off the 5th Crucis Lancers while the rest of the unit evacuated Capellan government officials, officers, nobles, and other important personages. As soon as they were safe, the Dynasty Guard destroyed Hasek's mansion via artillery and left New Syrtis.[19]

In August 3148 the Dynasty Guards boarded DropShips to return to New Syrtis. They dropped on positions held by the 1st Davion Guards.[20] After inflicting serious losses on the Guards, the Dynasty Guards had to deal with the citizens of New Syrtis engaging in guerrilla attacks against them. They lost several key officers during these attacks. The resulting caution they had to use when moving outside their 'Mechs affected their behavior in BattleMech combat.[21]

Tactics[edit]

The Dynasty Guard relies on breaking the opposition's battlefield concentration and pulling them into a series of smaller, even one-on-one combat situations. The key to their success lies in making sure they can match the forces of the opposition.[29]

During the assault on Liao in 3134 the Dynasty Guard couldn't work with irregular troops that made up most of the pro-Capellan forces on world.[26]
