Earl Willie "Man Mountain" Carter served in the Seventeenth Recon Regiment, also known as Camacho's Caballeros.[1]

History[edit]

Earl Willie Carter was one of those on active duty with the Caballeros in 3056 when they were employed by Chandrasekhar Kurita to provide security for one of his companies, Hachiman Taro Enterprises. Carter served under both Captain Juan Pedro "Don Coyote" O'Rourke[2] and later under Captain John Amos "French Fry" Ames within the Caballero's Adelante Company.[3]

Carter had a passion for French cooking, and during a Caballeros contract on New Avalon had studied under a chef cordon bleu; after the Caballeros' contract ended, he spent a significant percentage of what he earned paying for a video correspondence course from the same chef. A large, bearded black man, Carter unfortunately had a very similar apparance to the trademarked symbol of a popular interstellar chain of barbeque restaurants that had originated in the Southwestern Worlds. Carter loathed barbeque food, and considered it a tragic misfortune that his appearance bore such an astounding similarity to the restaurant chain logo, particularly as the chain had spread throughout the Free Worlds League and into the Federated Commonwealth.[1]

As a Caballero with an appearance that seemed particularly suited to intimidating the citizens of Hachiman, Lieutenant Cassie Suthorn employed Carter and another Caballero, Lieutenant Junior Grade Billy "Cowboy" Payson in a staged attempted abduction at a party. The fake abduction was designed to elicit the help of Hachiman's planetary governor, Earl of Hachiman Percival Fillington, by making him believe that Suthorn was being abused by Chandrasekhar Kurita, prompting Fillington to rescue her and take her to his estate. While playing the scared house guest, Suthorn then planted recording devices that would be used by her employer. During the staged abduction, Suthorn snatched a weapon from one of Fillington's guards and appeared to shoot Carter three times, with him promptly collapsing, bedecked with bloodstains. The ploy was successful, although the combination of the squibs and bloodbags Carter had worn under his shirt, combined with the impact of the bullets on his concealed ballistic-cloth vest, left him feeling rather sorry for himself.[1]
