History[edit]

The DCS Eos was an Aegis-class heavy cruiser in service with the Draconis Combine Admiralty during the First Succession War. When the Hegemony Armed Forces began to introduce the new Avatar-class heavy cruiser to service the decision was made to place the bulk of the older Aegis-class heavy cruisers in mothballs, orbiting the sun at a position somewhere between Terra and Mars, with a small number staying in active service as training vessels.[2] The ship which would later be known as the Eos was one of the Aegis-class ships to have survived her service to the Terran Hegemony, and when First Lord Ian Cameron of the Star League chose to bring the Aegis fleet out of mothballs in 2582 two-thirds of the Aegis class went on to service in the newly-formed Star League Defense Force; the remaining third of the fleet[2] - some 30[3][4] to 36[2] vessels in all - were sold to the various Star League member states.[2] The Eos was either purchased by the Draconis Combine at this point, or obtained subsequently, and was still in service with the Draconis Combine Admiralty in 2814.[1]

The Eos was stationed in the Dahar IV system in March 2814 when the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns launched campaigns to recapture both Dahar IV and the capital of the Draconis March, Robinson. The Eos was the only capital ship in the system when the AFFS task force arrived, and it was soon being engaged by the task force's naval escort, the Robinson-class transport FSS Marlette and a pair of Davion II-class destroyers. Despite being outnumbered, the Eos fought a determined battle against the three AFFS WarShips, using nuclear-tipped capital missiles to deadly effect, crippling both destroyers and inflicting heavy damage on the Marlette before being destroyed.[1]
