Jaleg Yorulis was a MechWarrior who served with the Gray Death Legion during its campaign on the occupied planet of Verthandi.

History[edit]

Yorulis was a short, stocky, and black-haired young man.[1] He had trained as a MechWarrior with a regiment of the LCAF, but he had not made the cut for a BattleMech assignment. He traveled from Morningside to Galatea in hopes of signing up with a mercenary unit. At Galatea Yorulis met Piter Debrowski, and they joined the Gray Death Legion shortly afterwards.[2]

Arrival on Verthandi[edit]

Following the crash landing of the Legion's DropShip at Hunter's Cape on Verthandi, Yorulis helped to fight off a force of Combine 'Mechs sent to investigate. He and Debrowski aided Delmar Clay against an Orion, catching it in a crossfire.[3]

Training the Verthandian Rebels[edit]

Yorulis took part in training the Verthandian resistance, posing as a "hostile BattleMech" so that Sergeant Ramage could demonstrate how to place explosive charges against a 'Mech's leg actuators.[4]

The Regis University Debacle[edit]

Jaleg Yorulis joined Grayson Carlyle's mission to rescue the Verthandian rebels from the Kuritan trap at Regis University. He brought down an enemy Wasp, inflicting severe damage.[5]

In the aftermath, he began voicing doubts about the viability of the Legion's mission on Verthandi. He even suggested changing sides to the Kuritans, a proposal that Grayson Carlyle flatly refused to entertain. Yorulis finally decided to remain with the Gray Death, albeit reluctantly.[6]

Left Behind at Fox Island[edit]

Recognizing that Yorulis' confidence was at an extremely low ebb, Carlyle decided to keep him out of the next few missions against the Kuritan occupation forces. He reassigned his 'Mech to one of the trainee Verthandian MechWarriors for an upcoming raid on the village of Scandiahelm.[7]

Death and Legacy[edit]

Yorulis was at the Fox Island base when a DEST strike team, supported by BattleMechs, staged a nighttime attack. He was unable to reach a 'Mech and tried to escape on foot. A Kuritan Phoenix Hawk sighted him and shot him with its machine guns. Fatally wounded, Yorulis was able to flee the area and brought warning to Carlyle and the returning rebel forces. He died as he was telling Carlyle and Lori Kalmar about the attack and the Kuritans waiting at Fox Island.[8]

The rebel column bypassed Fox Island and traveled to the remote coastal village of Westlee. His Legion comrades buried Jaleg Yorulis in an unmarked grave on the beach.[9]

BattleMechs[edit]

Jaleg Yorulis was assigned one of the two Wasps the Legion had captured on Trell I.[10] He piloted this machine at Hunter's Cape and at the walls of Regis University.
