The McKenna-class battleship[3] James McKenna was a Star League Defense Force WarShip during the Star League era. The James McKenna was known to have been in service prior to 2728, as in that year she entered drydock to undergo an extensive refit that took approximately three years, during which her K-F drive underwent a refit as did the Lithium-Fusion battery system.[4] The James McKenna survived the Hegemony Campaign to liberate Terra from the forces of Stefan Amaris, and subsequently followed General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus.[3]
When the Pentagon Civil War erupted, the James McKenna was one of the WarShips which followed Nicholas Kerensky to Strana Mechty. After Nicholas founded the Clans the James McKenna was deployed on Operation KLONDIKE, Nicholas' plan to conquer the Pentagon worlds.[3]
The James McKenna was the personal flagship of Clan Snow Raven Khan Stephen McKenna during the campaign to secure the Circe system. A former Admiral in the SLDF, McKenna had been charged with tackling the spacefarer enclaves in the Circe system, which were larger, more prosperous, better organized and better defended than most of the spacefarer communities within the Pentagon systems. The two major enclaves were located at the zenith jump point and deep in the outer system; the James McKenna and the Cameron-class battlecruiser Admiral Gerda Cameron were deployed against the zenith enclave.[3]
In securing the zenith spacefarer enclave the James McKenna and the Admiral Gerda Cameron went up against two spacefarer frigates, one Congress-class and one Quixote-class. Despite being outweighed and outclassed, the two spacefarer WarShips both fought to buy time for the spacefarers to try and evacuate the complex. Accompanied by a squadron of combat DropShips, the James McKenna and the Admiral Gerda Cameron both closed on the Congress, engaging at point-blank range; the Congress suffered multiple critical hits to the command and engineering decks, but still managed to score several hits on the two Clan WarShips as well as destroying seven DropShips before being taken out of the combat. The Congress managed to buy time for the Quixote-class vessel; dozens of spacefarer DropShips and a number of JumpShips had gone active, jumping out of the system while the Quixote cut loose from the recharge station and jumped as well.[3]
Of those vessels that escaped the James McKenna at Circe, all bar three JumpShips jumped to points in the other Pentagon systems already controlled by the Clans; the Quixote became a central ship in the extended hunt for spacefarer ships trying to escape the Pentagon worlds, eventually playing a prominent role in the Battle of the Pentagon Run, while the other ships that remained at the zenith point were all forcibly captured.[3]
Destruction[edit]
The James McKenna would serve as a WarShip within the Clan Snow Raven touman. In 3061 the James McKenna was one of five WarShips that made up the Snow Raven Swift Wing Naval Assault Star.[5] The James McKenna continued to serve in the Swift Wing Naval Assault Star throughout the 3060s alongside the Cameron-class battlecruiser CSR Blizzard, the Sovetskii Soyuz-class heavy cruiser CSR White Cloud, the Aegis-class heavy cruiser CSR White Terror and the Lola III-class destroyer CSR Spur.[6]
The James McKenna continued to serve in the Swift Wing Naval Assault Star until 5th of January 3069.[2] The White Cloud had been destroyed two years earlier by the Draconis Combine,[6] and it was on the 5th of January 3069 that the James McKenna and the three other vessels remaining in the Star were destroyed in the Ramora system of the Outworlds Alliance. The James McKenna took heavy damage when a terrorist DropShip, the Oswald, detonated in a massive explosion inside her cargo bay. A last, garbled message from the James McKenna reported the explosion and the nearby White Terror also reported a massive heat spike originating from the James McKenna along with EMP waves and heavy radiation. Local Snow Raven aerospace fighter forces reported that the spine of the James McKenna had been broken.[1][2]
The terrorists who destroyed the Swift Wing Naval Assault Star were either from or backed by the Word of Blake, but used Draconis Combine vessels and tactics when they destroyed the Snow Raven WarShips.[2]
