Planetary History[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

In the late twenty-sixth century as the Star League war against the Taurian Concordat escalated and the Star League began a campaign against the Magistracy of Canopus, Grigori Avellar, President of the Outworlds Alliance, and Alexander Davion, First Prince of the Federated Suns, concluded a secret agreement named the Tancredi Accord that was signed on New Avalon on 5 June 2581. This agreement saw the Alliance pledge twelve underdeveloped but water-rich Alliance worlds to the Federated suns in exchange for covert military aid - including supplying the Pitcairn Legion - and a pledge to support a fair peace solution for the Alliance within the Star League Council.[53]

The Star League invaded the Alliance in 2581, with the invasion force - named the Outworlds Alliance Task Force - consisting of two corps of Star League Defense Force troops supported by forces from the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery, all under the command of General Amos Forlough. By 2582, Forlough's plan for a quick resolution to the war had been frustrated several times by Alliance forces, including the Pitcairn Legion, and the SLDF and Combine troops had begun an escalating series of war crimes against the civilian population of worlds occupied or contested by the task force. In addition to this, Forlough's plan to conquer the Alliance had changed, and appeared to be reducing the shared border between the Federated Suns and the Alliance.[54]

Alexander Davion had responded by mobilizing AFFS forces in the Draconis March and dispatching his youngest son, Lawrence Davion, to meet with Ambassador Considine of the Outworlds Alliance on Hazelhurst. Lawrence Davion had already spent months or years negotiating between the states in the lead-up to the Tancredi Accord, and the two negotiators came to an agreement allowing AFFS forces to garrison a number of Alliance worlds just a single day before forces from the Star League reached the first of these worlds. AFFS troops took up positions occupying Bastrop along with Diboll, Hazelhurst, Inner End, and Pajarito between March and May 2582, and the First Prince declared all five worlds to be Federated Suns protectorates. This outraged Forlough, who protested violently to Ian Cameron alongside other Star League generals, but the First Lord ruled the matter closed.[54]

Forlough's campaign ground to a halt in late 2582 after Coordinator Hehiro Kurita withdrew supplies and units intended to support the entire Outworlds Alliance Task Force and instead used them to occupy the Alliance worlds of Kazanka, Nexus Ri and Zlatousi; however, by the end of 2582, it appeared that Forlough would be able to continue his campaign early in the new year. Alexander Davion responded by deploying troops to two more worlds within the Alliance, Crestoblus and Kinkaid II. Whereas Crestoblus was one of the worlds due to be ceded to the Federated Suns under the terms of the Tancredi Accord, Kinkaid wasn't a part of the Accord, and the planetary governor objected to the presence of foreign troops on the planet.[5]

When the Third Crucis Lancers arrived on-world under the command of Major General Gabriela Davion-Hart in January 2583 she found the Kinkaid Militia in place to defend the planetary capital; Davion-Hart ordered her troops to subdue the militia, rather than destroy them, and the resulting battle took four hours with five separate demands that the militia surrender before the militia finally capitulated. Even with the capital held by AFFS forces it took several weeks before Governor Seong formally surrendered, and even then, he only surrendered after receiving orders to that effect from Outworlds Alliance President Grigori Avellar.[5]

Avellar's protests to Alexander Davion regarding his occupation of Kinkaid was soon forgotten, although both Amos Forlough and Coordinator Kurita were outraged by the Federated Suns actions and demanded that the Star League officially censure the actions. Davion ignored the demands; his forces also continued to frustrate the Outworlds Alliance Task Force by refusing DCMS transports moving to Sevon permission to land on Kinkaid, citing the Star League constitutional guarantees that gave planetary governors the authority to refuse landing rights to another nation's military forces and pointing out that violation of this right constituted an act of war.[5]

Kinkaid II would be garrisoned by Federated Suns forces until the end of the war in 2585; after peace was declared on 1 August 2585 with the enactment of the Treaty of Cerberus Kinkaid returned to Outworlds Alliance control, and would remain an Outworlds Alliance world throughout the Star League era.[6]
