Planetary History[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

By the end of the Age of War Kwangjong-ni was a member of the Finmark Province of the Rim Worlds Republic.[2] Civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic in 2575, with the factions polarized around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[36]

The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled a multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic.[37] Assigned to the conquest of Kwangjong-ni in 2588 was all three regiments from the Lyran Auxiliary Corps: the Tamar Tigers, the Twenty-fifth Skye Rangers and the Fourth Royal Guards. The Star League forces successfully took control of Kwangjong-ni, defeating the local militia and partisan forces, and all three LCAF units remained in place on the planet until they were redeployed for the invasion of Luanda in 2590.[38]

Star League[edit]

During the Star League era, the Republic set up a BattleMech factory located in an underwater habitat hidden deep in Kwangjong-ni's massive Lost Sea. This was kept secret from the other nations, but rumors of the facility leaked out. The Star League Defense Force sent the 111th Light Horse Regiment to Kwangjong-ni to follow up on rumors of an illegal BattleMech manufacturing facility, but they found nothing. The facility would fall into disuse and disrepair after the Republic's collapse during Republic-Commonwealth War 27732775 where Kwangjong-ni was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth.[12][39][40]

The Jihad[edit]

In the years leading up to the Word of Blake Jihad, Defiance Industries learned of the hidden factory, spending considerable sums to locate and refurbish it to function. Acting as a production site for the company's secretive R&D efforts, the Kwangjong-ni plant had three easily reconfigurable production lines which reached full production capacity during the Jihad, helping to offset the loss of Hesperus II to the Blakists. To protect it from both attack and prying eyes, the plant's actual location is kept top secret, large cargo subs carrying needed parts in and finished designs out the only method of reaching the factory, the sub's home port heavily defended by the planet's militia.[40][41]

Military Deployment[edit]

Geography[edit]

Kwangjong-ni, among planets, stood out for its oceans. Although the planet's seas were the site of constant storms, the plentiful ocean life supplied both most of the planet's food and its primary export, luxury seafood.[45]
