The LCS Odessa was a Commonwealth-class light cruiser in service with the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces during the First Succession War.

History[edit]

The Odessa was deployed alongside a sister ship, the LCS Odessa, as escorts for the Fourteenth Arcturan Guards during the conquest of the former Terran Hegemony world of Denebola in 2786.[1]

The Free Worlds League had conquered Denebola in 2785 and assigned the Thirty-fourth Marik Militia to garrison the planet, but the Thirty-fourth was still settling into their chosen base—the battered Star League-era facilities that had formerly been the base of the Star League Defense Force 282nd Mechanized Infantry Division—and fending off low-level raids and skirmishes from pro-Hegemony guerrillas when the Lyran task force arrived.[1]

The Free Worlds League Military was heavily deployed, fighting along the border with the Lyran Commonwealth as well as annexing former Hegemony worlds and invading the Capellan Confederation, and as a result the naval picket for the Denebola system consisted of just a pair of Vincent-class corvettes. These two light WarShips gamely attempted to oppose the invasion, but the opening salvo of laser and missile fire from the Odessa destroyed the FWLS Francisco outright, prompting the Francisco's sister ship to abandon the Denebola system post-haste.[1]

The Odessa and Porrima moved into orbit above Denebola and subjected the Thirty-fourth's base to a two-hour orbital bombardment that destroyed more than half the Marik forces outright. Having already lost a company of forces to the Hegemony guerrillas, two companies of mixed armor and infantry forces from the Thirty-fourth went to ground and would spend months engaged in raids and resistance against the Fourteenth Arcturan Guards, but the bulk of the survivors from the Thirty-fourth surrendered within two days of the Fourteenth's landing.[1]
