History[edit]

Mari Rennery was a MechWarrior within ComStar's Com Guards, rising to the rank of Precentor in 3045 and holding command of the 323rd Division at least as of 3049. Deployed from its station on Keid[1] to fight during the climactic Battle of Tukayyid, Rennery's Negative Communication along with the rest of the Fifth Army was assigned to combat Clan Smoke Jaguar.[2][3][4][5]

Her Division placed in hiding above and within the Dinju Pass underneath camouflage netting, prepared to emerge and ambush the Jaguar forces as they advanced to their primary target of Dinju Heights, Rennery would watch as the Jaguar Grenadiers commander Star Colonel Brandon Howell instead hesitated, holding back his main force before sending a probe force into the pass to smoke out Rennery's hidden forces. Ordering her Division to attack Howell's Mad Cat, Rennery leapt into the pass to block his advance. Though her division destroyed the probe force, they were unsuccessful in defeating Howell or preventing the majority of the Jaguar Grenadiers from escaping the ambush and reaching the outskirts of Dinju Heights. When Khan Lincoln Osis led his Sixth Jaguar Dragoons to repeat Howell's advance, Rennery's 323rd and the 299th Division crowded the floor of the pass, ultimately grinding the Sixth Dragoons to nothing and seemingly killing Khan Osis in the process.[2][6][3][4][5]

Buoyed by her division's success against the Sixth Jaguar Dragoons,[7] once the Smoke Jaguars withdrew in defeat, the Precentor Martial redeployed the surviving elements of the Fifth Army to assist defeat Clan Diamond Shark. Performing a combat drop from hovering DropShips,[8][9] Rennery had combined command of the 323rd and 299th Divisions as they set up in a staggered line-abreast formation running east to west to the south of the Kozice Valley, lying in wait on low power to cut off the withdrawal of the Sharks' Alpha and Gamma Galaxies.[7]

Much to the shock of Rennery, rather than weakened Clan forces running from the north into her trap, the fresh 'Mechs of the Third Shark Regulars emerged without warning from the lake next to her easternmost forces, the Level III referred to as Second Battalion under Demi-Precentor Sandra Turley. Heavily outnumbered by the Clan Cluster, Turley hurriedly ordered a fighting withdrawal as she desperately requested a disbelieving Rennery send immediate support. Before Rennery could attempt to do so, the Third Shark Regulars' savage advance broke Turley's line as the Third Shark CO Star Colonel Adrine downed, then crushed the cockpit of Sandra Turley's Flashman beneath her Vulture's foot, sending her surviving troops into headlong retreat.[7]

Recognizing she had been flanked, her two divisions about to be split down the middle with the Fifth Army possibly encircled by Alpha and Gamma, Rennery reluctantly ordered her 323rd Division to withdraw under cover of the 299th Division, allowing the Third Shark Regulars to reach Alpha and Gamma, but preserving her force.[7]

Rennery died during the fighting against the Diamond Sharks, with Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht merging the survivors of the shattered 322nd Division under Precentor Charles Reanner into the weaker but now leaderless 323rd Division during the post-Tukayyid rebuilding of the Com Guards.[10]

BattleMechs[edit]

Precentor Mari Rennery piloted a Guillotine during the ambush at Dinju Pass against Clan Smoke Jaguar forces.[6] During the actions against Clan Diamond Shark she piloted a Highlander.[7]
