Commander Mary "Hopscotch" Finn was a noted Capellan Confederation MechWarrior. [1] [2]

History[edit]

Originally attached to the Chesterton Reserves, Mary Finn attracted fame for her skills at the control of rare Ostscout. Eventually Finn would be detached from the Reserves to become an independent scout working for various Confederation commands in need of her skills. A daring pilot, Finn enjoyed long scouting missions and seemed to thrive on the danger involved, yet never suffering any serious damage to her 'Mech, though coming close to disaster twice, once during a recon mission on Demeter and during the so-called "Thousand Kilometer Chase" in 3024.[1] [2]

The most famous among her many exploits, "Thousand Kilometer Chase" saw Finn dropped to scout out landing zones for a retaliatory strike against Smithson's Chinese Bandits who raided the Capellan capital of Sian in 3022. Unfortunately due to a computer error Finn was accidentally dropped behind the Bandit lines, spending the next ten hours eluding the Bandit patrols before she could make her way to an extraction point, accumulating enough intelligence in the process for a successful reprisal raid. [1] Earning her the nickname of "Hopscotch", this action would become a textbook examples of evading enemy patrols and avoiding enemy contact, shortly after the Fourth Succession War her missions becoming the most studied examples of conduct by the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces underneath Chancellor Romano Liao. [2]

In addition to his skills as a pilot, Finn was a top tech who insisted on doing her own maintenance, being especially protective of her Ostscout's valuable and irreplaceable sensor arrays, well aware that without them her 'Mech would be assigned to regular combat duty, a fate all but disastrous for such a minimally armed design. [1] Her skill as both a scout as well as a competent technician on advanced sensor systems made her invaluable in the R&D phase for the Raven BattleMech. While dutifully doing her duty, Finn however frequently expressed her displeasure at the lack of speed and maneuverability of her Raven in comparison to her old Ostscout. [2]

BattleMechs[edit]

Mary Finn would attract fame for her piloting and scouting skills at the controls of her pristine Ostscout, Finn ensuring the rare 'Mech's enhanced sensor arrays and targeting and tracking systems were maintained in perfect condition even during the LosTech era of the Fourth Succession War. [1] Her talent as both a scout and technician with knowledge of advanced sensor systems ensured she was the perfect test pilot for the R&D phase of the advanced Raven BattleMech. [2]
