Planetary History[edit]

The Star League[edit]

After seeing little action for almost a decade, the 3rd Jump Infantry Division asked the local planetary authorities if they could use their forces against local criminals who had hidden in the planet's wilderness areas. While some considered this over kill, the local SLDF commander wanted to take any opportunity possible to keep his troops ready for action.[10]

Marik Civil War[edit]

Matheran became the site of a battle early in the Marik Civil War simply because the loyalist 11th Atrean Dragoons were stationed there. The veteran 12th Atrean Dragoons were dispatched by Anton Marik in July 3014 to eliminate them, and initially mauled their sister unit in a series of clashes throughout Matheran's equatorial forests. The tide turned in mid-September when the loyalist-affiliated mercenaries Smithson's Chinese Bandits arrived just in time to rescue the 11th from near-certain annihilation.[11]

After a month of running battles through the woods, Wolf's Dragoons' Beta and Gamma regiments arrived to reverse the situation again, this time in the rebels' favor. Smithson's Chinese Bandits made a fighting retreat off-world while the 11th Atrean Dragoons stubbornly held their ground and were eventually forced to surrender.[12]
