MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries/Decapitator

Decapitator[edit]

MechWarrior’s Campaign Journal[edit]

January 5, 3052[edit]

I can’t believe Kurita chose me for this mission. There must be a hundred other MechWarriors on Luthien who are better suited for it. I’ll be lucky to get out of this one alive.

Briefing[edit]

Coordinator Takashi Kurita, Draconis Combine High Command: The battle has paused just long enough for us to load our weapons and steal a few hours of sleep. The Smoke Jaguars are on the other side of the valley. When the sun rises, they are sure to attack. Imperial City is at our back, we can retreat no further.

Kurita: [Player Name], I am relying on you alone to execute this hazardous mission. Sneak across the valley and find the Smoke Jaguar Commander, where he is investigating his front lines. Then, kill him. The confusion his assassination will cause may give us enough time to make a quick sortie before the Jaguars are prepared.

  • Codename: Decapitator
  • Planet: Luthien
  • Terrain: Kado-guchi Valley
  • Mean Temperature: 30 Celsius
  • Mission Pay: Bounty only
  • Expected Resistance: 31st Smoke Jaguar Assault
  • Your Call-Sign: Assault-3

Kurita: Cross the valley and search the NAV POINTS. Find the Smoke Jaguar Commander and kill him.

Objectives[edit]

  • Target: Destroy the Smoke Jaguar Commander
  • Bonus: Destroy any targets of opportunity

Aftermath[edit]

Debriefing[edit]

Coordinator Takashi Kurita, Draconis Combine High Command: You have proven worthy of my faith in you, [Player Name]. Your assassination of the Smoke Jaguar commander threw the Jaguar forces into a momentary disarray that allowed us to make a quick sortie, causing heavy damage. Now, we must prepare for the final battle for Luthien.

Brockton’s Complete History of the Inner Sphere, p. 249[edit]

Despite heavy losses inflicted by the Draconis forces, Clan ‘Mechs broke through the Combine line and headed for the Imperial City, Luthien’s capital and the political seat of the Draconis empire. Takashi Kurita and his harried forces scrambled to re-form the line and save the city, the destruction of which would be an ideological blow as much as a physical one.

The battle on Luthien had already proved to the Inner Sphere’s leaders that the best way to face the Clans was with a united front. The continuing war between the Successor States had only served to aid the Clans in their exodus to Terra. On Luthien, cooperation had proved capable of slowing the Clan attack. But was the lesson learned too late to save Luthien?
