Winfield – Mission 5

Objectives

• Secure the Airbase
• Repel the Clan attack on the field base

Mission Description

Beckman: Commander. If you have any questions, now's the perfect time to keep them to yourself. Holloway! Has that scout detachment reported back yet?

Holloway: No, Major. And we've lost contact with three other outposts, all of which reported coming under heavy attack.

Beckman: Brilliant. Almost half of our local assets filling the MIA lists, and our new MechCommander lets two more lost sheep go wandering off into the countryside.

Beckman: We need some decisive action, and we need it-

Holloway: Sir! Incoming transmission from General Winfield.

Winfield: Major Beckman?

Beckman: General!

Winfield: Major. Can I assume you've seen losses similar to those reported by the other battalion commanders?

Beckman: We are holding our own. Sir.

Winfield: That's good to hear, because the rest of my officers are taking a beating by this "Clan Jade Falcon," wherever the hell they came from. We need to organize a holding strategy before the entire planet is overrun. First and Third Battalion are retreating to form a new defensive line. What can you do for me?

Beckman: I can gouge the enemy flank and buy us the time we need, General. Meanwhile, I'll move my personal command post back. To better support our efforts.

Winfield: Do it. We rally at a strong position, then strike back and break the enemy momentum before it's too late.

Holloway: General, it's Sergeant Holloway. Sir, what about the Combine strike force still operating in our area?

Winfield: Latest intel reports they've taken as much damage as we have. Right now, they're trying to get out of the way just as fast as possible. Engage them if you must, but buy me time. Winfield, out.

Beckman: Holloway, deploy Hammer Lance immediately to strike at the Jade Falcon flank. Any Combine forces in the area are to be eliminated as well.

Holloway: But the General-

Beckman: Ordered us to engage the enemy, Sergeant. Beckman out!

Holloway: Engage the enemy. Right. Commander, there are two bases on the Jade Falcon flank requesting aid. One is a field outpost. The other an air base. Secure the air base and we can launch Chippewa bombers to assist your operations. And the field outpost contains repair facilities. I have a feeling that both will be critical to any success. Luck to us all. We're going to need it.

DURING MISSION

(Hammer – Awesome; Wittinger – JagerMech; Benson – Cataphract; McVickers – Catapult)

Objectives:

• Defend the airbase

Holloway: Secure the air field to your east so our aerospace units can take off.

Hammer: You know the drill, people. I want this fast and tight. And Hauk, if you open your mouth, I'll let McVickers put her fist in it.

Jules: Twenty bills says I get the first kill.

Teresa: You're on.

Holloway: Bombers are taking off, Commander. You now have access to incendiary airstrikes. Call for strikes as you would other strategic options, by holding on the targeted location without any MechWarriors selected.

Jules: Man, I hate incendiaries.

Hammer: Incendiary bombs won't do much damage, but they can cause 'Mechs to overheat and shut down. Make sure my team is clear when you drop one.

Hauk: Yeah. What he said.

Holloway: Commander, I'm setting a Nav Point for the field outpost. The enemy has taken over its turret defense system. If you eliminate all enemy forces in the area, you could capture the turret control building and save yourself a lot of trouble.

Hauk: I like target-rich environments as much as the next guy, but this I getting serious.

Teresa: Noticed that, did you? I'm sure it's just Major Beckman showing his confidence in us.

Hauk: Oh yeah? When was the last time you saw his butt in the field?

Hauk: Base secure.

Jules: Are we done yet?

Hammer: Not quite yet. We've bloodied their nose, but HQ still wants us to kick them in the ass.

Clanner: At last. A worthy challenge.

Jules: I've never seen 'Mechs with this kind of firepower.

Teresa: Sir, we're seriously outgunned!

Hammer: HQ, this is suicide. We can't possibly go up against these 'Mechs and their DropShips!

Holloway: Understood, Captain. Get your lance out of there.
