BRIEFING

Renard: Enjoy the weapons you captured, Commander. A prize for a job well done.

Yee: You have violated House Liao’s territory, Colonel Renard.

Renard: I have no idea what you’re talking about, Madam. House Liao said there were no bandits in that region. Why would any of my forces be there?

Yee: I officially protest.

Renard: Noted. One of my civilian spies is missing. I sent him into Liao territory last night. He’s being held prisoner in a facility across the Little Yangtze. Recover him. Incidentally, Liao has a fuel depot nearby. An explosion there would make a…good distraction.

Yee: Colonel!

Renard: That will be all.

Diaz: Steiner is commencing strikes against Liao. Drop into Liao territory and engage multiple targets of opportunity.

Colonel Renard has ordered the commencement of operations against House Liao.

Drop into the Liao-controlled Darian Sector. Highest priority is the capture of the Prison Complex and rescue of a Steiner operative held there. Other priority targets are the Fuel Tank reserves, Weapons Facility, and Repair Bay in this sector.

Steiner Crypto reports that the Mobile HQ captured in the Carroll Sector contains log files showing that Liao has been funding the Bandits with weapons and C-bills. Supplying Steiner’s enemies with military equipment is an act of aggression, and Steiner High Command has ordered active defensive measures against House Liao.

Tactical Officer Notes: Things are getting hot on Carver V, Commander. We’re not taking on some local gangs this time; we’re attacking one of the major Houses of the Inner Sphere. I hope you know what you’re doing.

Be careful around the Fuel Tanks; an explosion can destroy even Heavy ‘Mechs. Take medium- or long-range ‘Mechs and fire on those tanks from a distance. I’ve seen other commanders purposefully ignite fuel tanks from long range to cripple nearby enemies.

Liao typically fields fast, maneuverable units and has the best electronics and sensor gear available. All that speed has a price, though: Liao ‘Mechs are lightly armored.

DURING MISSION

Tech: You got yourself some ER energy weapon technology there, Skipper. ER stands for Extended Range. Same damage, but it fires farther.

Steiner Operative: Thanks for the rescue, Commander. Sounds like you messed ‘em up pretty good downriver. One of their big shots, I think his name was Vong, he sounded pretty scared of you. Listen, I’ve had it with House Steiner and I could use a job. I was a MechWarrior about 20 years ago, and my call sign was Steel. Interested?
