Born on one of the three Southwest Trinity worlds, Mercedes "Misty" Saavedra was a MechWarrior who served in the Seventeenth Recon Regiment, also known as Camacho's Caballeros. Misty was one of those serving in the Caballeros in 3056 when they were employed by Chandrasekhar Kurita to provide security for one of his companies, Hachiman Taro Enterprises. Misty was a part of the Caballeros' Bronco Company under the command of[1] Captain Kali "Lady K" MacDougall.[2]
Described as a giggly, round little woman, Misty was best friends with another of the Caballeros' MechWarriors, Janine "Mariposa" Esposito, a Valkyrie pilot, and served as Janine's maid of honor when Janine married Lonny Ortega, a Caballero Stalker pilot from Infante Company, on the 7th of September 3056.[1]

- Although Misty's rank isn't specified in the novel Close Quarters, all of the MechWarriors mentioned in the novel who are assigned a rank are at least a Lieutenant Junior Grade or higher, making it likely, but not certain, that Misty was either a Lieutenant Junior Grade or Lieutenant Senior Grade.
