Oda Hideyoshi was a Draconis Combine MechWarrior and commander of the Otomo.

History[edit]

Oda commanded the Otomo for more than fifteen years, and was a hardliner veteran who preferred traditional bushido philosophies of Coordinator Takashi Kurita over those of his son, Theodore Kurita. Regardless, his loyalty to Theodore appeared to be above reproach.[1]

During the Battle of Luthien, Oda Hideyoshi helped Theodore Kurita implement his orders to create remote piloted LoaderMechs packed with explosives to help resist the Clan Smoke Jaguar invaders. A tactic that was used to great effect against the First Jaguar Guards during fighting near Basin Lake outside Imperial City.[2]

Also, while he piloted a BattleMaster BattleMech during his career, he accepted to pilot a newer Combine OmniMech, a Sunder, when most traditionalists preferred to keep their old machines.[2]

However, he would later join the Black Dragon Society and help them attempt to assassinate Theodore Kurita. The Black Dragons decided to attack Theodore during the celebration of the Coordinator's birth on 1 July 3058. The plot failed thanks to the efforts of the mercenary group Camacho's Caballeros, the Ninth Ghost and ISF director Subhash Indrahar, who sacrificed his life to decapitate the conspiracy.[3] The commander of the Ninth, Tai-Sa Eleanor Shimazu, engaged Oda's Sunder with her Mauler before he reached the Coordinator's stand and downed his 'Mech.[4]

Death and Legacy[edit]

Oda was temporarily saved by the First Sword of Light, who mistook the Ghost Regiment as the real traitors, and put an end to the fight. Oda asked permission of the First's commander, Tomoe Sakade, wife of Theodore, to bring his 'Mech upright, and as deference, his request was granted. But after his Sunder was again standing, Hideyoshi charged the Coordinator's stand, screaming "Death to the traitor!". He had barely advanced before the combined fire of Shimazu and Sakade struck the back of his OmniMech, causing it to explode and killing him instantly.[5]

After Oda's death and the failure of the plot, Theodore ordered purges of any Black Dragon sympathizers.
