The Ormstown system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as of 3145 was an independent system located in the border region between the Lyran Commonwealth, Rim Commonality and Rim Territories.[1][2]

System Description[edit]

The Ormstown system was located close to the Janina and Marisura systems.[3][4]

System History[edit]

The Ormstown system was colonized during or shortly before the Age of War and had been incorporated into the Rim Worlds Republic by the time of the Reunification War.[5] July 3 was known and celebrated as Founding Day.[6]

Planetary History[edit]

Age of War[edit]

Ormstown was entangled in pirate conflicts in 2413.[6]

Reunification War[edit]

Civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic in 2575, with the factions polarized around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[37]

The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled Task Force MAILED FIST to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic. A multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force, Task Force MAILED FIST was responsible for executing Operation MAILED FIST, the name given to the military intervention. The first wave of attacks focused on securing significant worlds near Apollo,[38] until a destructive raid on Alarion by the Fourth Amaris Fusiliers in retaliation prompted the SLDF to alter its initial strategy for the campaign, the focus shifted to reducing Rim Worlds Army concentrations throughout the Republic and the capture of key worlds.[39]

In late 2584 the SLDF changed tactics again; a number of major RWA units had been destroyed or captured, and the focus for the campaign shifted to capturing worlds of strategic importance, but the campaign was slowed by the greatly increased resistance offered by the RWA and local civilian populations, prompted by atrocities performed by the Draconis Auxiliary Corps when they captured Nightwish in mid-2584.[40]

Duke Narinder Selaj of Battle Group Timbuktu assigned two regiments from the Draconis Auxiliary Corps, the Second and Seventh Swords of Light, to the conquest of Ormstown in 2590. The Star League forces successfully took control of Ormstown, defeating the local militia forces, and remained in place as the local garrison until the Draconis Auxiliary Corps was withdrawn from Task Force MAILED FIST in 2591 as the various District Warlords of the Draconis Combine attempted to compensate for the erratic actions of Coordinator Leonard Kurita.[41]

Star League Era[edit]

Ormstown was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773-2775 Republic-Commonwealth War.[14]

Succession Wars[edit]

By at least the 3040s, Ormstown was engulfed in a violent feud between two of its most powerful families: the Mair family, owners of several mines and stills, and the Brossard family. The decade was one of Mair dominance.[42][6]

Jihad Era[edit]

By 3073, Ormstown was a minor planet, its population of 100,000 rarely seeing visits by 'Mech units.[43] It was within the Kaumberg Archonette's territory.[31] Arms dealers, such as "Handsome" Pete Carpenter, profited off of the planet's violent family rivalries, which were not limited to the Mair-Brossard conflict.[6]

In February 3073, the Mair family made a move. Taking advantage of a spy among Brossard associates,[6] Mair forces, numbering approximately 100 people and several small civilian vehicles, assaulted Brossard Manor when head Malcolm Brossard and most of the family forces were absent.[42] The manor was defended by four LCAF veterans with access to a refittable Powerman and a set of 'Mech-scale weapons.[44] The result of the battle is unknown.

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Champs-sur-Abondant: A town, as of 3073.[31]
    • Brossard Manor: Home of the Brossard family and core of the Brossard landhold. The manor was surrounded by dense forest but for the road to the manor, which ran through an open field.[6] It was attacked by Mair family forces in February 3073, and defended by four LCAF veterans. Whether the attack succeeded is unknown.[42]
    • Greaves Lumber Mill: Badly damaged by Mair family forces in February 3073.[31]
  • The Mair mansion and landhold: Located near the Brossard landhold.[45]
  • The Crosse Hills: Home to at least one distillery as of 3073.[31]
