Though the New Earth Trading Company supplied specific gauges and rulers to ensure the tank's tracks were properly adjusted, crews invariably misplaced them in the field. Widely available, the Pharaoh can proved an ingenious substitute, in part because the internal pressure of the beer within the can slightly distorted its shape and only a freshly opened can had the exact measurement required.
