Description[edit]

The Pinto-class corvette was designed as a picket vessel by the Rim Worlds Republic during the Age of War. However, with its weak armor offset by a strong offensive punch, the Pinto proved to be more capable as an escort ship or orbital support for an invasion force. As a show of solidarity, House Amaris allowed sales of the Pinto-class to other larger Periphery realms, while two shipyards in the Rim Worlds Republic were able to construct the "picket" ship. Production and sales of the Pinto ended just prior to the Reunification War, a move by Gregory Amaris intended to curry favor with First Lord Ian Cameron.[4]

In 2650, as Tadeo Amaris started rearming the RWRM, production of the Pinto began again. However, when the Republic was forced to disarm at the behest of Sarah Steiner-Dinesen, the newly constructed fleet of Pintos were overlooked.

By April 2765, more than a hundred Pintos were serving openly in the navies of the various Periphery nations; the Rim Worlds Republic fielded by far the greatest number, with fifty-two hulls in service, but the Magistracy of Canopus had twenty in service and the Taurian Concordat had another eighteen in service.[5] The navy of the Outworlds Alliance consisted entirely of Pintos at this point—fifteen in total[5]—and the Alliance was also capable of manufacturing its own Pintos in the Alpheratz system beginning almost immediately after the repeal of the Star League Council Edict of 2650 in the mid-twenty-eighth century.[1] Other shipyards within Alliance space were also involved in contributing to the manufacture of Pintos,[1] possibly including the Ramora Shipyards operated by the United Outworlders Corporation in the Ramora system.[2] With the completion of the Diamond Garter Fleet Yards in 2725 the Magistracy of Canopus was able to manufacture Pintos as well, allowing the Magistracy to expand its WarShip fleet between 2725 and 2765 from a single Concordat-class frigate and a single Athena-class cruiser to a fleet twice the size of its Reunification War strength.[5]

The Pinto-class were believed to have been completely destroyed by the SLDF during the Amaris Civil War. Further, both shipyards capable of producing the design were also destroyed. However, rumors had persisted for centuries that there are derelict Pintos to be found in the Deep Periphery.[4] During the Jihad, the Word of Blake salvaged several survivors of the class. These ships were seen fighting across the Inner Sphere and the last of them fell fighting to hold Terra in 3078.[6]

Armament & Capacities[edit]

The Pinto boasted heavier armor and faster acceleration than the Vincent-class favored by the Star League. The armament of the Pinto was mixed, allowing the vessel to engage both capital vessels and smaller aerospace craft. However, the expense of these capabilities was the relatively poor armor.

Cargo[edit]

The Pinto is capable of moving a reasonable amount of cargo, especially for a small corvette. The Pinto possesses a single DropShip ring, and has 3 bays. Two of these bays are given over to the aerospace fighters (2 squadrons) and the pair of Small Craft, while the third is capable of carrying 10,942 tons of cargo. A space marine platoon can be used for offensive or defensive operations.
