Title(s)Keeper of the Family Honor

Riki Kurita was the ninth Keeper of the Family Honor to follow Omi Kurita.

History[edit]

Riki Kuritas selection for the process was as a direct result of him asking for the Keeper position, having studied the Dictum Honorium since his childhood; Riki had been working as a librarian for the Order of the Five Pillars since leaving university when Kiaria Kurita retired in 2021 as a result of growing health concerns. With Kiaria's retirement the post of Keeper was vacant, and while Yukako Kurita was considered to be the most likely choice of replacement, Coordinator Takiro Kurita, Riki's uncle, had never gotten along with Yukako. Knowing this, Riki asked to be appointed Keeper.[1]

After considering Riki's application, the Coordinator decided to agree to appoint Riki to the post of Keeper, provided that Riki could demonstrate that he was the superior candidate to Yukako. A test of practical and applied knowledge was administered by Kiaria to establish whether Riki or Yukako knew the Dictum Honorium best, as well as demonstrated greater aptitude for interpreting the meaning of the code and reaching judgements in gray areas. Riki won the challenge easily, and would go on to earn a reputation as a living copy of the code, based upon his ability to resolve complex matters. It was Riki's interpretation of the Dictum that gave Takiro the inarguable evidence that Vincent Kurita was the true inheritor of the title of First Prince of the Federated Suns. Riki would hold the title of Keeper for almost fifty years.[1]

Outside of his responsibilities as Keeper, Riki was an enthusiast of karesansui, the art of rock gardening, as well as a keen martial artist. Riki took part in numerous mixed martial arts tournaments, and during the course of his life he won the prestigious Tatsuno belt once, along with the Paracale Belt once and the Isesaki Belt twice. Riki's interest in mixed martial arts gave him the physical appearance of a bodybuilder or soldier.[1]
