Talk:Freebirth (disambiguation)

(Redirected from Talk:Freebirth)

Proposed changes[edit]

This seems to be an instance where one use of a term is far more notable than the others. "Freebirth" is used as an epithet all the time, and it's what an editor would intuitively expect to see when they wikilink the term. I'm thinking about making some changes:

  1. Move this page to Freebirth (disambiguation)
  2. Convert the page Freebirth to a redirect that points to Freeborn
  3. Add a note at the top of Freeborn explaining that "Freebirth redirects here" with a link to the disambiguation page

I'm going to think about it some more and invite other editors' thoughts before I make the switch. Tosta Dojen (talk) 11:53, 18 September 2020 (EDT)

I did not notice this on the first pass but I am of the opinion that "Freebirth" is an insult that is pretty common, "Freeborn" is a term for "not a Trueborn" but in of itself there is no such thing as a "Freeborn". As such I would rank the term "Freebirth" higher than the term "Freeborn".--Dmon (talk) 15:28, 30 November 2020 (EST)
I should maybe clarify that the issue I was tackling here was 'Freebirth as an epithet' vs. 'Freebirth the novel', which are the two entries on the disambiguation page. The insult seems much more notable than the novel, so I gave the main article for "Freebirth" to the insult on that basis, following the guidance of Policy:Article Naming. I'm open to further discussion, of course, but I'm not sure I understand what you suggest doing differently here. Tosta Dojen (talk) 17:00, 30 November 2020 (EST)
