Recommendation[edit]

I recommend we expand this article to include the District of Donegal and the Donegal March. Objections? ClanWolverine101 20:43, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

I would recommend against redirecting/expanding this article to include the District of Donegal/Donegal March/Donegal Province/Donegal Military District/Duchy of Donegal, because it makes the article unwieldly.
Yes 1. The protostate/region containing Donegal has changed so drastically since 3025 that I recommend breaking it up into separate articles for readability. In contrast, the Federation of Skye/Skye Province/Skye March has maintained at least some consistent borders since 3025, so it kinda makes sense that most of these names for Skye regions redirect to the same article. Similarly, the Tamar Pact/Tamar March since 3025 is largely the same area of space, so it makes sense that the names for Tamar regions redirect to the same article.
Yes 1.1: Looking at the maps of the Alliance over time (File:Lc.3067.png) for the proposed redirect of Donegal Province, we can see that the Province encompasses a very different region of the Commonwealth/Alliance than the March did in 3040 (File:Lc-3040.png). The March represents much of the Lyran State command interior during the FedCom era, while the Province represents a much smaller interior region for the rimward border of the Jade Falcon OZ. Thus, the Donegal Province and the Donegal March are not the same, and trying to put the two in the same article might be confusing to new readers.
Yes 2: This article is written about the proto state that would be one of the founding members of tne Commonwealth (there's even a dissolution date in the infobox). The District of Donegal, the Donegal March, and Donegal Province all existed after the dissolution date on this article. It is confusing to new readers to be redirected to a page about the proto state when they clicked on a link from a passage from the Jihad era.
Resolution: I'm trying to create frameworks to fill out articles for the Donegal March, Donegal Province, and (later) the District of Donegal, instead of those being redirects to the proto state article. It's a bit challenging for me, since I have access to very little source material.

Personally, I would say not to lump them together. The Protectorate of Donegal and District of Donegal existed concurrently for most of the Commonwealth's existence, according to the maps in HB:HS. They're definitely two distinct entities. On the other hand, I think combining the District with the Donegal March and Donegal Province is perfectly fair.--ReinhardtSteiner (talk) 20:41, 18 October 2022 (EDT)
