Article Title, Part 1[edit]

I thought, only Abtackhas get their Clan's name attached to their name... And in the Novel, he's just "Zane" --Detlef 03:36, 4 May 2009 (PDT)

Just following the format of Sarna.net. Also, it can be little confusing if we had bunch of one name person listed here. It makes easier to identify. Someone could veto this, but its done out practicality. Within the clan itself, he only known by his first name. Not rest of the universe. -- Wrangler 09:14, 4 May 2009 (PDT)

Article Title, Part 2[edit]

I thought it was only Freebirths that were adopted into the warrior caste that get the Clan name as their surname, like Horse Jade Falcon or Elson Nova Cat or Jaime Wolf. Regardless, if Zane was a trueborn, wouldn't a more appropriate title for this article be "Zane_(Nova Cat warrior)"? -- 75.23.228.139 25 July 2022

I admit that I do not follow clan culture enough to know the specific conventions, but if the change is made the wiki naming convention would be "Zane (Clan Nova Cat)".--Dmon (talk) 18:00, 25 July 2022 (EDT)
I reviewed my copy of the novel Path of Glory, in chapter 17 when Zane first powers up his Pack Hunter to configure it, he logs in as "MechWarrior Zane Nova Cat." The novel does not explain this. It's possible that all unBloodnamed Nova Cat warriors are referred to with the Honorname "Nova Cat" unlike other Clans where it only Freeborns receive their Clan's name as an Honorname. -- Chu Jungyin 20:11, 25 July 2022 (EDT).
Clan cultural norms on this are a bit fuzzy in-universe - In the Dark Age for example in some Clans pretty much every unblooded warrior got their Clan name as a surname. In this case, since we have a source where he calls himself using that format, I think that should be enough to follow it for Sarna purposes. So I think we should leave it as is --HF22 (talk) 05:17, 26 July 2022 (EDT)
When I log into my Duolingo account, I use a combination of my name and profession but that doesn't make it my official name. Because this page is named as such, folks saw it as precedent when naming others like Horse Jade Falcon which puts Sarna in a position of attempting to write/adjust canon. Over the last couple years, more than 1,000 single-named Clan characters have been added to the site. The wiki naming convention Dmon mentioned has been reinforced well and deep in the database now, and the Horse article has been updated to reflect this. There's no need to disambiguate Zane's character article at this time, but should that day come I would suggest we reconsider it and not take the one passing instance of "Zane Nova Cat" as his canon name. I think the Policy we have now covers all the bases pretty well - The "no assumption should be made about any unmentioned surname" is what stops things like "Horse Jade Falcon" being legitimate. We can always expand if it however, as new edge cases are discovered which need disambiguation.--HF22 (talk) 01:16, 20 January 2024 (EST)

Cleanup topix[edit]

Basically, this article reads like a chapter by chapter summary of Path of Glory (which was a novel focussing on several months of Zane's life on Yamarovka), rather than a summarization of Zane's life.

Cleanup of this article should therefore better summarize Zane's time on Yamarovka, rather than try to retell the entire story of Path of Glory (A good example is the paragraph about Yoshio and Zane discussing Minoru Nova Cat. That paragraph, while it provides insight to the Path of Glory story, provides very little to this article).

I'll see what I can do.75.23.228.139 15:32, 1 October 2022 (EDT)
