The Terra Firma Protectorate Militia is one of the many militias raised by Word of Blake to defend the Word of Blake Protectorate. The unit was deployed in Terra Firma. As of 3075 it was the only unit raised from this planet.[1]

History[edit]

The Blakists used their popular support on Terra Firma to their advantage; planting Word of Blake sympathizers in the local government allowed the Word to take over the world without a shot being fired, and by the 1st of August 3068 the Word had full control of the government on Terra Firma.[2] In fact most of the Terra Firmans didn't realize that they were being bombarded by xenophobic propaganda until after they agreed to serve in the Word of Blake Militia. With the horrors of the Jihad swirling around them however, the Terra Firmans resisted the Word of Blake forces on their homeworld. Resistance movements started on Terra Firma as early as 3070. Many of these resistance cells were created by survivors of the Seventh Kommando, Wolf's Dragoons' special operations unit. In 3073 the new Black Widow Company arrived and fought the Opacus Venatori. This was an inconclusive battle, but the Word's High Command began to pay attention to the world. The Terra Firma Protectorate Militia was scrutinized by Word ROM and expanded to face the guerrilla threat. Most of this manpower came from the New Terran Party, and the expanded Terra Firma Protectorate Militia was placed under the command of that party's leader, Marius Verloewen. His heavy-handed tactics, including reprisals against civilians worked and by 3076 the resistance was isolated into one single place. However the Coalition sent reinforcements and agents provocateurs to stiffen the resistance. These partisans were brutally killed, and the population rose up against their Word oppressors.[3]

In mid-February 3078 the Ryuken-roku was fighting alongside Devlin Stone's coalition on Terra Firma, only to discover that the capital city was a maze of booby-trapped buildings, and Cumberland's Missiliers were brought in to help the Ryuken-roku to clear the city block by block. The fierce campaign against the Blakists and the Terra Firma Protectorate Militia forces saw the city effectively razed.[4][5] Rather than face justice, the New Terrans destroyed the capital of Austerlitz in a suicidal last stand, and Marius Verloewen himself was unaccounted for after the final battle and remained on a list of wanted war criminals.[3]

Rules[edit]

As long as a Protectorate Militia force is fighting on its homeworld and is acting as the scenario's Defender, the Protectorate Militia force receives the Force the Initiative and Off-Map Movement special abilities.

If deployed as the Attacker in a scenario, the Protectorate Militia force loses its Force the Initiative ability, but retains its Off-Map Movement capability.

If deployed on a world other than its homeworld (such as an Epsilon Eridani force being deployed on Genoa), the Protectorate Militia force not only loses all of its special abilities, but also suffers a –2 Initiative modifier.

Although Blakist-based, Protectorate Militia forces may use standard Inner Sphere force arrangements (Lances, Companies, and Battalions) rather than Word of Blake force arrangements.[7]
