The Tharkan Gazelle is a breed of herd animal introduced to the world of Tharkad within the Lyran Commonwealth.[1]
Description[edit]
The Terran gazelle was among the first herd animals imported to Tharkad. Despite being naturally suited to cold temperatures, the first populations of gazelles had a hard time adjusting to the even colder temperatures they experienced on Tharkad. Over time, the species evolved to exist in their new home by growing heavier and sturdier than their Terran ancestors.
By 3067, Tharkan gazelles were abundant in Tharkad's cooler wilderness regions. They were also raised for their meat and hides by many ranchers on world.[1] The wool of Tharkan Gazelle was also used for clothing, including military uniforms of the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces.[2]
Another use of Tharkan Gazelle was a racing animals, to be gambled on, in addition to more traditional species used for this purpose such as horses and greyhounds.[3]
