Description[edit]

Named for the symbol of the Egyptian goddess Wadjet, the Uraeus is a heavy BattleMech which first appeared during the late Dark Age era in the hands of ComStar and the Republic of the Sphere.[2]

With the Malcolm Buhl-led splinter faction the Blessed Order seeking to secretly rebuild the Com Guards, in 3128 agents of the Blessed Order stole advanced Word of Blake technical data, including extensive specs on the Manei Domini's Celestial series OmniMechs, stored within a protected Republic of the Sphere data depot on Terra. Reengineering the secured schematics to develop the Uraeus and Kheper BattleMechs, Buhl commissioned the New Earth Trading Company - little more than a corporate front owned and operated by ComStar since the early Succession Wars - to secretly construct production lines for these new 'Mechs as well as a new DropShip design, the Duat-class, hiding them among the massive volume of civilian manufacturing lines operated by NETC.[4]

The Uraeus first known public appearance was in the ranks of resurrected First Division on Luyten 68-28, where it was used against elements of the Republic of the Sphere which were hunting them down. After the destruction of the Com Guards on Epsilon Eridani, the Uraeus was rapidly adopted by the Republic to help rebuild its tattered ranks after the fall of Gray Monday in 3132, well received by the Hastati Sentinels, Triarii Protectors and Stone's Brigade despite being maligned at the same time for its ComStar origins. The 'Mech was frequently used on the RAF's lightning raids outside the Fortress, making use of its Celestial stylings to cause confusion among those who encountered it.[2]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

Designed to be the devastating close-in fighter, the main combatant in the thick of fighting, the Uraeus was intended to serve in Com Guard heavy and cavalry Level IIs with the Republic Armed Forces designating its as a heavy raiding 'Mech. Constructed to be a durable machine, using the NETC Endo-Steel and 300-rated Vlar fusion engine, the Uraeus utilizes 13 tons of Wall Type 8 light ferro-fibrous armor to handle the rigors of close-in fighting. Not the fastest among its peers, the Uraeus' strength and speed is augmented by Triple Strength Myomer, giving it the edge once it meets an opponent head on.[2]

The 'Mech's main weapons come in the form of a Mydron Excel Class 10 Ultra Autocannon and a OMI StarBurn Bombast Laser which is mounted on a BattleMech Shoulder Turret on the left torso. The turret is armored to allow the powerful laser array to fire 360° and resist battle damage. When the 'Mech closes in to meet an opponent toe to toe, the 'Mech can rely on its Hovertec 4-tubed Streak Short-Ranged Missile Launcher and its medium Vibroblade, the latter really coming into its own once the 'Mech's heat rises. The Uraeus's three tons of autocannon and missile ammunition are placed in the right torso with benefits of CASE II protecting the design from ammo explosions.[2]
