Welcome, ArkRoyalRavager, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "ArkRoyalRavager" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

Hi sorry I rarely see my chat section. Ok will keep it in mind. Thank you for the feedback! --User:ArkRoyalRavager

FM 3145[edit]

Sorry guys I didn't realize the FM3145 moratorium till I edited some of the articles. After reading through this wiki's moratorium policy which says the source can be used 2 months after being published, and since FM3145 came out in mid-September, it's alright to use it as a souce now right? --User:ArkRoyalRavager

Wrong. We are waiting for the printed FM:3145. Do not post anything from FM:3145! --Aldous (talk) 08:22, 9 December 2013 (PST)
Err... Could you undo everything you've done? Thanks.--Aldous (talk) 08:35, 9 December 2013 (PST)
The moratorium expired on February 18, 2014.--Doneve (talk) 11:30, 9 December 2013 (PST)
We measure moratorium dates from the publication of the print book, where applicable. Moratorium dates are listed on the article for the book/product. In this case, FM:3145 has a street date of December 18th, so we have just a bit over two months to wait. --Scaletail (talk) 16:37, 9 December 2013 (PST)
Ok. Will remove them till February 18th.--User:ArkRoyalRavager

The AFFS[edit]

If you can let me know what you're trying to do with the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns page, I may be able to give you a hand with the formatting and the like - at the moment, you've got some really weird formatting layouts going on. Drop me a note here or on my talk page and I'll help if I can ... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 14:04, 9 December 2013 (PST)

Why you remove some headers?.--Doneve (talk) 14:26, 9 December 2013 (PST)
I was trying to create a section for the Independent Commands brigade due to the AFFS commonly lumping them under that brigade in the field manuals. Also, the brigade is the most fluid due to different units being added or deactivated or eventually forming their own separate brigade(like the Federated Suns Lancers). --User:ArkRoyalRavager
OK - I can help with that. How many units have served as independent commands, while still being AFFS units rather than hired mercenaries? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 11:20, 10 December 2013 (PST)
1st Aragon Borderers, 1st Argyle Lancers, 1st Capellan Dragoons, 1st Federated Suns Armored Cavalry, 2nd Federated Suns Armored Cavalry, 1st Federated Suns Lancers(eventually formed its own Federated Suns Lancers brigade), 1st Kestrel Grenadiers, 1st Kittery Borderers, 1st Royal Cavaliers - these are the units in the Independent Commands from 3025-3085. User:ArkRoyalRavager
I've been reading through the AFFS page, and a lot of those units are listed under the "Inactive Brigades" sub-section. However, I'm not overly convinced the page as a whole is in the best layout, because it's very much linked to being a sitrep as at the end of 3067, with some additions from later detail. I think what might be best is to wait until Field Report: 2765 AFFS is out to see how many of those units listed as brigades on the AFFS page currently actually really were brigades. Then, the page can be rewritten to make it less time-bounded and more general, with a section on Independent Commands if needed. Does that sound reasonable? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:43, 12 December 2013 (PST)
Great idea. Will do. Thanks BrokenMnemonic. User:ArkRoyalRavager
Happy to help Smiley.gif I'm looking forward to seeing the new WarShips and formation details from FR 2765: AFFS. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 06:14, 13 December 2013 (PST)
As do I! I'm personally interested in the specific class of the AFFS flagship mentioned in the Davion sourcebook. As for formations, the lack of many of the old standbys like the Deneb Light Cavalry and Crucis Lancers will take some getting used to. User:ArkRoyalRavager
Historical: Reunification War didn't have anything heavier than an Aegis in the fleet the Taurians destroyed during Case AMBER. Given that fleet was more than half of the AFFS navy at the time, I'm wondering where the Defenders mentioned in Strat Ops went. It also suggests that for the Golden Lion to be a flagship, it was probably heavier than an Aegis. With the CCAF and DCMS both getting two new ship classes - one new, one old - I'm inclined to speculate that one of the two we'll get shown is the Defender. As for the other... maybe it'll be a new heavy of some kind. It's be nice to see a bit of variety - although with the CCAF using a Black Lion I as one of their lead ships, I'd not be surprised to see that the Golden Lion was another ex-THAF ship, perhaps something like a Monsoon...
I'm also looking forward to seeing what the older formations are that are in play during the era. The Draconis March-affilitated home brigade has changed name at least once. Sadly, I doubt we'll learn any more about the Terran Brigade and whatever the old Age of War Periphery March home brigade was, but I can hope, right? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 06:54, 13 December 2013 (PST)
Big apologies for my long absence. FR2765:AFFS came out in the interim. I am very impressed with the creativity of the Defender. 5/8 Battlecruiser centuries before the Kimagure or Kirishima came out! The Congress-D is not bad as well. Though there are still no Terran Brigade or Outer March(Periphery March was only used after Yvonne created it) brigades, I am thrilled about the Dragonlords, Arcadian Cuirassiers and Tancredi Loyalists. I hope they come back again somewhere along the Dark Age.

Sadly, points that I raised in the official forum were removed and regarded as fanboy sarcasm. I will state them here just for healthy discussion, the issue being the inconsistency between the AFFS as portrayed within the Dark Age novels a decade ago and the incompetent AFFS as portrayed in the time-jump to 3145.

- The Cappies gained the most from Guerrero, gained a solid victory from the FCCW, had the best performance after the Bears during the Jihad, had negligible losses from both wars with the Republic, then mopped the floor with the Suns once the Republic went into Fortress mode. True enough?

- Their constant success preserving their super-WarShips(the pair of upgraded Feng Huangs) when everybody but the Clans have lost so much. The Suns didn't even get any productivity from the Kathil OR New Syrtis OR Delavan yards during the whole interbellum period of 60 years while losing every Avalon from 3062 to 3145, leaving us with just a corvette. This is a sore point for me, especially when the FSN had so many shipyards compared to the CCN.

- Their "Hidden Lions" (is that even Chinese allegory when all they had throughout East Asian history has been Tigers and Dragons; seems certain people are projecting Western concepts into an Oriental faction heavy on Xin Sheng, decreasing the realism of the series) allowed them to reactivate units left and right.

While to add insult to the AFFS' injury they can't even get any DLC units off the ground even after Deneb Kaitos rejoined the Suns? No Dragonlords even with El Dorado taking a more prominent role since the Jihad? No Arcadian Cuirassiers for defence even though the Cappies keep rattling sabers for ALL OF HISTORY to reclaim the Duchy of Chesterton? This bit is even more egregious when both Harrison and Julian had agreed since the start of 3135 that the Chesterton worlds needed to be strengthened. Then FM3145 shows us that 10 years later the Cappies just had a leisurely time strolling into the Duchy. Against weak AFFS defenses. Where's the continuity? Julian didn't see to the reactivation of the Argyle Lancers during the post-Blackout rearmament even though Argyle is so rich and his father was ruler of that planet? No Capellan Dragoons even though Kathil is now the March Capital and has all those factories?

- Even the industrial status update in FM3145 is kinda lame. The Suns gets two paragraphs of mostly obvious things that we've known NINE YEARS before FM3145(Kathil's mobilization being something that appeared IN THE PROLOGUE of Sword of Sedition), while the Capellan and other(namely Lyrans) industrial status sections can stretch for pages and into extremely-minute details. What a huge contrast.

On the meta-level, in hindsight the current storyline of the Suns is just an extra-hard re-hash of the 1st Succession War. And it is NOT that surprising that the things that went down in the Capellan March happened the way they did.

Due to Sword of Sedition already showing: - Everybody in the AFFS upper echelon already predicting that the CCAF had the capability to conquer half of the Capellan March within one year - Everybody in the High Command already having an idea of the CCAF's total strength including Hidden Lion units - Everybody in the AFFS already being tasked to learn from the CCAF's hidden rearmament plan and apply it to the AFFS by......Harrison Davion HIMSELF, the "Peace Prince" that the Catalyst books like to shove on the readers, presented as the Stone-loving idiot prince that didn't learn anything from the Victoria War and was "fully committed" to disarmament up till his death.

It is quite hilarious when I re-read the smart, slowly wising-up AFFS of the novels and then contrast it with the artificially-dumbed down AFFS of the Catalyst books. All that panic and grimdark against the CCAF when the higher-ups had already knew ten years ago that they would face exactly this kind of enemy?

I really feel sad for the situations the Federated Suns keeps wounding up in. And it is not due to realistic epic story-telling, but contrived circumstances. Contrast to the real-world Allies of the interbellum period between WWI and WWII.

With the Republic getting so much coverage and being shoved to the fans as the new "it faction", I really have a hard time justifying buying anymore Catalyst sourcebooks as it will just come with Republic-heavy or fringe things like IE. Even the upcoming TRO3150 sounds like more new units, but with the massive flood of designs already existing, why don't the factions just upgrade their old ones. Hope there's at least a pure fluff sourcebook that meticulously covers how the Republic counterattacks :(
