Sourcebook Search[edit]

Hello. I am looking for a Sourcebook where Sun Tzu Liao talked about Isis Marik after he broke off the engagement. It was first person, maybe from his journal/diary? I remember reading it but can't remember the name now. Any help is welcome.--Aldous (talk) 20:03, 5 January 2014 (PST)

It is a Novel, i have it not to hand at the moment, but i talk to you when iam back from travel at end of the week.--Doneve (talk) 22:20, 5 January 2014 (PST)
I'm just guessing, but I think its The Killing Fields? ClanWolverine101 (talk) 22:22, 13 January 2014 (PST)

Need Templates to Follow[edit]

I would like to make an article on the Lorix Order, Sarna Mandate, etc. I also want to add a new combat regiment. What templates should I use? Also, I would like to rewrite the CapCon article to reflect the Handbook. The original comstar House Book was full of errors.--Aldous (talk) 04:57, 19 January 2014 (PST)

Be careful when you work on the CapCon article - I found when I was working up articles for the Tikonov Union, Tikonov Grand Union, Capellan Holdfast/Republic/Hegemony/Commonality et al that there's a lot of detail in the original House book that's absent from the Handbook, but not contradicted by it, in particular when looking at the Age of War and pre-Age of War eras. The House book is perhaps the most detailed of all of the early FASA House books when it comes to the early history of the various states in the region, so you'll need to be careful to keep in the bits from both that don't contradict each other.
The Help & How-to link on the left sidebar has templates for a lot of different article types in it, although I've found that in some cases, it's easier to take an existing article of the same type and use that as a template. Which combat regiment are you looking to write an article for? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 05:44, 19 January 2014 (PST)
The St. Ives Academy Martial Cadre. I was surprised it didn't have one at all.--Aldous (talk) 16:40, 19 January 2014 (PST)
It's probably just a reflection of where and when the unit was first mentioned - with everything here outside specific projects being updated on a fairly random basis because it's all volunteer efforts, if no-one who noticed was interested enough to write an article, it would never have been written. I'd suggest that for the St. Ives Academy Martial Cadre a good starting point would be to take the article for the Sarna Martial Academy Cadre, copy and paste it into a text editor and rework it offline to represent the St. Ives cadre instead. That's how I've been slowly working through things like the Tikonov Lancers units as and when work gives me a break. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 23:48, 19 January 2014 (PST)

Wikibreak[edit]

Hy Doneve,
I hope the wikibreak goes well. You'd better not be pushing yourself too hard - the nurses may be cute, but they aren't worth another trip to the hospital!
I'm currently doing 12-14 hour days for work at the moment, so I'm getting almonst nothing done here, but I keep telling myself that hopefully it'll only be for another few weeks... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 01:02, 22 January 2014 (PST)

What do you think[edit]

Hello Doneve, I hope you feeling fien. I have a short request at you. What is your opinion about my new brigade layout like the X corps of the SLDF. Furthermore you can take a look of two different versions of the formating. Tnx Neuling (talk) 17:11, 22 February 2014 (PST)

Question[edit]

What do you call the factoid when the book authors make a mistake that needs to be corrected in an errata?--Aldous (talk) 06:59, 23 February 2014 (PST)

InUse & 10th Ghost[edit]

Hi Doneve, please remember look at the template InUse when your go edit. I had that document open for editing. Your not suppose mess with it while the InUse template is there. I managed to save what i was working on. Take care -- Wrangler (talk) 13:36, 27 February 2014 (PST)

about tables at brigade pages[edit]

I think the tables are an good idea because they show which unit was active during the different time frames. Some units like the 1st and 4th MaC regiment were destroyed shortly after the Jiahd but were rebuild and active in 3145. I won't repeat the composition for each time frame because that would create unnnecessary redundance. It shows also how long the brigade was active. I hope that explain it in a good way. With best regards Neuling (talk) 12:13, 16 March 2014 (PDT)

I know, but your formating of the tables are poor and have a lack of informations, and now i notice you use diverent table formats? Please stop or stard a discussion if the new format is etablished or not, thanks.--Doneve (talk) 13:07, 16 March 2014 (PDT)
I start a discussion at the Project: Military Commands page but received only one response sofare. I used a different formating for the Liao Chang Cheng, because the units changed their designation many times over the years. I use all available informations to create the tables. Many units were destroyed and rebuild over the times. The former layout of the brigade units doesn't reflect that informations. My goal is to create an accepted way to show which unit is active during the different times. I hope my explanations lead to the support which I need for such a large project. With best regards Neuling (talk) 13:23, 16 March 2014 (PDT)
Discussion is here Doneve. I really think that second format used on the Liao Chang Cheng page is utterly horrible, to much invormation with no actual explanation of what it means.--Dmon (talk) 17:19, 16 March 2014 (PDT)
Just to let you know that I will be correcting some erroneous data in the Capellan Brigade pages.--Aldous (talk) 19:12, 16 March 2014 (PDT)

Coquered Planets[edit]

Hello Doneve, I have a short question. Is it acceptable to use the maps of the various Handbooks as reference for the conquest of the planets during the Succession Wars, as an example. And which way would you prefer to show it? With best regards Neuling (talk) 14:47, 18 March 2014 (PDT)

New Idea[edit]

Hy BM. A new idea by myself, i want to create a template like the Rules section [div class="gamerules"] but in red on some pages for the notes section to highlight some errata or inconsistence thinks there descriped in the notes section and so on, and highlighte some answered questions from the BT forum, is this a good idea, i want to involve Mbear to this, any thoughts.--Doneve (talk) 17:29, 23 March 2014 (PDT)

Hy Doneve,
Would you want the box to highlight canon inconsistencies where we've got two canon sources that contradict each other, or to highlight comments and rulings from TPTB, or both? I think it's a good idea, but red is associated with warnings - it's only really used on here for warning people who're breaking rules and for marking out fanon entries - so I'd be tempted to make it a different color. I don't know much about the div class templates like the gamerules one, and I've never tried making one - my first thought is, would it be something that we could do using tags like those Frabby made up to mark Apocryphal detail within an article? I know that I like to include answers and comments from TPTB in the article itself in the notes page, whereas Frabby prefers to put the detail in the talk page, so there might be a difference of opinion over whether the template is needed or not. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:45, 24 March 2014 (PDT)
Ok, i copy this talk to Mbear's talk page.--Doneve (talk) 04:05, 24 March 2014 (PDT)
Adding a class or section like that is possible, but we need to talk to NicJ to make that happen. BrokenMnemonic is right, red we usually use for CRITICAL or ERROR conditions so we don't want to use that. I'd look at Frabby's Apocryphal stuff as a model for this.
I'm not clear on what you're trying to achieve with this project though. Can you provide an example? Thanks!--Mbear(talk) 07:38, 24 March 2014 (PDT)
Doesn't the quote set it off enough?--Mbear(talk) 08:04, 24 March 2014 (PDT)

Edward Regis[edit]

Hey Doneve - House Steiner (The Lyran Commonwealth) includes two pics of Edward Regis. Can you upload them for me? Thanks. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 20:23, 30 March 2014 (PDT)

Should be a second one on page 90. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 20:01, 31 March 2014 (PDT)

Movement Speeds[edit]

Hello; I received a request on the forums to include the board game speed (4/6, 3/4, etc.) along with the kph speed on each unit's article. I don't have the means to check these (i.e. the sources), so if we'd go ahead with it I wouldn't be able to help much. What are your thoughts on this? -BobTheZombie (talk) 17:10, 8 April 2014 (PDT)

New unit pages[edit]

Hey can you do me a favor? When you put together a new unit page like Kappa Galaxy (Clan Jade Falcon), just mark it as a stub page. Don't include the update needed tag. The page is so empty that stub is a better reflection of what needs to be done. Thank you!--Mbear(talk) 05:26, 10 April 2014 (PDT)

I could help out; so the update needed tag need to be removed? -BobTheZombie (talk) 07:16, 10 April 2014 (PDT)
Ideally yes, the Update Needed tag would be removed. The UN tag was created to inform users that an article needed an update from a source that was under Moratorium. It later morphed into what we have today.--Mbear(talk) 09:27, 25 April 2014 (PDT)
My life's kind of nuts at the moment, and I can only work on FM:3145 stuff when I'm at home, but if you drop me a note on my talk page about which new units have been added from FM:3145 I'll make it a project of mine to go through and add all the fluff detail when I can. It's kind of quietly soothing Wink.gif BrokenMnemonic (talk) 12:36, 25 April 2014 (PDT)

Vandalism[edit]

Thanks for the fast response to that; I wish I could spend more time here but time is still just way too limited for me. Thanks for stepping in where I can't. User 1st Legion[edit]

Just got your note and I can't see what he's doing, probably because he deleted the talk. Where did you post the talk? On his User talk page?--Mbear(talk) 09:23, 25 April 2014 (PDT)

(And please put these kinds of comments on the Admin page so every admin can see it so we can get it resolved faster. Smiley.gif Thanks!)--Mbear(talk) 09:30, 25 April 2014 (PDT)
The problem is he was first registred as 1stlegion but Frabby moved his content to the fanon wiki and delete his profile while he take childish vandalism, he was pissed of while we moved his content to the fanon wiki, and he blanked this and that, i hope this helps, i have an eye on him.--Doneve (talk) 09:35, 25 April 2014 (PDT)
Well, there was a user called "41st legion" who had fanon that I moved to the other wiki, and then this user added some that seemed the same style as the other, and another called "9000th Legion" just joined today. I have a feeling that these, and possibly more, are all the same person. There was one made a while ago called "501st Legion" that also may be connected... -BobTheZombie (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2014 (PDT)
I just got a note from him.

Award[edit]

Hy Doneve,
I've lost track of the number of times you've helped me out on here over the last three or so years, but now I'm all modly and powerful, I can give you one of these in appreciation for all the things you've helped me with:
Helping Hand Award, 1st ribbon
It comes with a caveat though - don't ever worry me like that again. If Sarna has a heart, it's you - I don't know if you realise how big a part of the place you are, but you had three of us admin types trying to work out how to check how you were doing. No more bouts in hospital, ok? I don't care how cute the nurses are. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 12:52, 22 August 2014 (PDT)

BM! It's a pleasure to work over the last few years with you and the other guys thanks for the award dude. I got a mail from Rev the last month or so, but you know i had other thinks to do, if you want to contact me sent me a e-mail per sarna, cheers.--Doneve (talk) 13:03, 22 August 2014 (PDT)

Project: Planets[edit]

Hy Doneve,
I'm starting to get my act together with the planets project. I've created templates on my computers to use for updating the articles into the new format and for replacing the Help article on planets.

I've also updated the list of project Phases on the project page, because how Rev saw the project running and how it's actually worked out after all the work we've done are two different things, and we were going to be stuck with all the articles being at phase 0 or phase 1 and then jumping to about phase 5 in one go.

Based on how I've reworked the phases - and if you agree with them, because realistically it's you and me doing the work at the moment - all of the articles should now be at least at phase 2, as they've all been categorized and have had the new coordinates added. When you put in the new InfoBoxSystem and InfoBoxPlanetStandard templates, you're moving the article up to phase 3, and when I start rolling out the new article format, that'll move them up to phase 4.

Assuming that goes smoothly, then changing the Nearby Systems table over the new table would be phase 5, and replacing all the maps would be phase 6. Does that all seem sensible to you? If it does, then I'd suggest updating the phase number in the planets overhaul template in each article as you edit each article - it'd be a wasted effort to go back and just change the phase numbers in each article, particularly if over the next few months you and I will be updating them all anyway. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:37, 16 December 2014 (PST)

Sounds good, iam a little bit sadly that you and me do the most work and not others work with us on the project. But it is so! When i go to add the new infoboxes and update the owner history i change the phase, now iam on [D] named planets, also [A]-[C] must become a phase change.--Doneve (talk) 00:50, 16 December 2014 (PST)
It's because everyone's intimidated by the way you and I like to go over all 2,000 planet articles time after time changing things Wink.gif
I've uploaded two text templates into my sandbox: User:BrokenMnemonic/Planet_Template_Blank, which is almost completely blank, and User:BrokenMnemonic/Planet_Template, which has the explanatory text in each section. What I'm doing is I'm taking each article, taking a copy of the Project_Template_Blank, copy and pasting the detail into it, and then making any changes I need to make it match the detailed template. Then I'm deleting any headers that aren't used, so that each article doesn't end up being full of sectionstub tags. The new article format will work best with planet articles that have a lot of detail in them - for those where we don't have much, there isn't a lot of change, but I've had to go through and change where the links are in articles because bits that were at the top are now at the bottom, and so on. I'm going to do a test with a dozen or so articles and see how the new format's working, just in case there are some problems. I left the Hesperus data in the template I'm using just to make sure when I'm populating infoboxes that I'm getting the detail in the right format. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 01:57, 16 December 2014 (PST)
The new template looks greate, but i waiting how to see this on diffrent planet pages and if its work.--Doneve (talk) 02:08, 16 December 2014 (PST)
The very first thing I've noticed is that a lot of articles where we know nothing about the planet in the system are basically becoming system articles, rather than planet articles. Which is kind of nifty. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:21, 16 December 2014 (PST)

Acamar[edit]

Hy Doneve,
I just rolled back the edit you made to Acamar removing the second political affiliation header. That header is for situations where control of the system and control of one or more planets in it belong to two or more different parties. I haven't come across a situation where that's actually happened yet, but while I was working through the articles it occured to me that it would be more consistent to comment out the bits that aren't used, rather than deleting them or leaving them in. If I leave them in, then someone's just going to come along and spam every article with sectionstubs, but if I delete them, then should that section be needed in the future, there's a good chance someone will put it back in the wrong place. I thought by commenting the unneeded bits out, I could avoid both problems - the comment shows why the section's been commented out (and establishes that it can go back in when there's something to go there, by inference) but it preserves the article format without all those stub tags.
Is that a sensible way to work, in your opinion? If you think it's not working or is confusing, I can go back and change the articles I've done. I'm conscious I may be over-thinking this all a bit... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 07:32, 17 December 2014 (PST)

A ok, i forgot this, can you take a look on Dalian and Dalkeith i updated the page with the new layout, i think it works.Doneve (talk) 10:55, 17 December 2014 (PST)
I think it's working - you need to move the Free Worlds Link up from the planetary affiliations table to the system history in the Dalian article though, and move the political affiliation data down to the political affiliation section in the planet section of the Dalkeith article, though. The political affiliation stuff should really only go in the system section of the article if we don't know if there's a planet or something else in the system (which is a lot of systems) or if it's different to the affiliation the planet(s) had. At the moment, I think articles with it in the system section are outnumbering the others by about 2:1 - it surprising how many worlds we know nothing about - but it looks like Dalkeith actually has a named planet and some historical detail. Is it just me, or does it feel good to be officially making progress again? Smiley.gif BrokenMnemonic (talk) 13:27, 17 December 2014 (PST)
There should be some good details about Dalkeith in the FCCW Sourcebook. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 11:59, 1 January 2015 (PST)
