Welcome[edit]

Welcome, GreekFire, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "GreekFire" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

Because somebody has to do these things.[edit]

Random Act of Appreciation Award, 1st ribbon
A "quote" that comes entirely out of my own head, that I am fond of using at times like these: "Don't think of digging latrines as punishment duty. If I wanted to punish you, I would forbid you to dig latrines!" Thanks for tackling the crappy jobs--without the ones who will, we'd be hip-deep in it. Wear the ribbon with pride.--Talvin (talk) 21:33, 11 March 2022 (EST)

I gave this to you when you were just starting the project. Now that you have reached the end, I feel something bigger is called for. For your tireless work getting Targeting-Tracking System sorted out, the Substantial Addition Award, the highest (relevant to this) award one Editor may give another. Bon Travail.
Substantial Addition Award, 1st ribbon

Quickscell vs Quikscell[edit]

Hey GreekFire, I saw your recent updates to many of the MW5 pages with the preferred spelling of the Quikscell Company. I'm not sure if you are aware, but in the game it's always written as Quickscell, both for their HRQ Destabilization missions and on the Tier 0 AC-BF weapons. Do you think users might believe we have made an error? --Csdavis715 (talk) 07:27, 18 March 2022 (EDT)

That's awkward. I'll revert those changes back to what they were, but make sure they link to the new page. Now I'm wondering if the MW5 team referred to Sarna for their brand names.--GreekFire (talk) 07:33, 18 March 2022 (EDT)
Yea, it might be good to play it safe there. I also would like to see things like the lowercase "b" for SLDF Royal variants but I think we leave them all capital letters like in the game to avoid confusion. And yea, I think the game uses a lot of weapons manufacturers listed on Sarna. Not sure if they scrolled through the database or referenced the same original sources. --Csdavis715 (talk) 07:51, 18 March 2022 (EDT)
We know they used our map as the basis for the map in the game so it is not a far stretch to imagine they used us as a starting point looking for weapon brands.--Dmon (talk) 17:50, 18 March 2022 (EDT)
Hey GreekFire (and DMon and anyone else reading), I'm doing a thorough proofread of the MW5 in-game text for PGI to identify obvious typos (misspellings, repeated words, misplaced apostrophes, etc.) and I wanted to check in about Quikscell. Is this the 100% correct spelling of the company, or does it vary in BT sourcebooks? On the wiki page itself, it says it's also known as Quickscell. If I suggest this correction and they end up looking on our site to verify, they're just going to disregard it. Please advise, thanks! --Csdavis715 (talk) 07:07, 12 July 2022 (EDT)
There's been variation in Quikscell's spelling in the same way that there's been variation for most proper names in BattleTech. Typos happen, and they slip by editors who don't have every BattleTech brand name memorized, only to be picked up on years after the fact. In the case of the "Quickscell" misspelling, this mistake happened in roughly seven products. The proper "Quikscell" spelling---which was the first spelling to ever appear in canon---has now appeared in over fifty distinct products. It is also what is currently used by BattleTech developers, and can be considered to be the canon spelling in every sense.
The only reason why the "also known as Quicksell Company and Quickscell Company" passage on the Quikscell page can't be deleted is because it's sourced from older FASA/FanPro products that errata is not compiled for; as such, it's impossible for CGL to fully fix this issue to a degree that'd satisfy Sarna's requirements. --GreekFire (talk) 09:22, 12 July 2022 (EDT)
Thanks for that thorough explanation! I think I'd like to propose that correction to them eventually, but I'll drop it down the priority list with so many other clear errors to address and their attention spread thin. It took them 2 years to fix some things, like the name of the CGR-1A5, so we may need to be patient. --Csdavis715 (talk) 00:39, 14 July 2022 (EDT)

Rumble Seat[edit]

Hi GreekFire.

I found I had to put in hidden notes about No Torso Twist being removed because someone who refused to read the newest errata kept adding it back in. It may be necessary to do the same with any other quirks that become deprecated. Madness Divine (talk) 00:11, 26 August 2022 (EDT)

Oh boy, OK. Thanks for the heads up.--GreekFire (talk) 14:10, 26 August 2022 (EDT)
