Drakøns changes[edit]

Ok, so I am curious. Is there some benefit to changing the wikilinks for the Drakøns rather than letting the redirects do the work?--Dmon (talk) 13:38, 4 August 2020 (EDT)

The links, not really I suppose. I used to work in a wiki where Special:WhatLinksHere for the page wouldn't show you links from redirects, among other things, so there were small benefits to eliminating redirects. I developed the habit of adjusting links to avoid redirects while I was fixing other style issues, which is what I was about with Drakons/Drakøns and their ordinals in the text. Sarna is the only wiki I have ever worked on so pretty much all wiki code I know is what I have picked up here. A nice feature we have is that out redirects show up in whatlinkshere.--Dmon (talk) 14:27, 4 August 2020 (EDT)
Yeah, that seems to be standard wiki technology now, but old habits and whatnot. Improvements like that can be a double-edged sword, where suddenly I'm the most out-of-date component. :) Tosta Dojen (talk) 14:42, 4 August 2020 (EDT)

Comments to me regarding my edits[edit]

Tosta Dojen, thank you for your commentary. I let my emotions get the best of me, and you are right to correct me. I will endeavor to keep my notes on the content only, from here forward. You're right -- the community is important, and I have no interest in putting anyone down or making them feel bad.

Thanks again. Constructive criticism received. TheVengeant (talk) 17:13, 22 August 2020 (EDT)

Follow up semi-related question: how do we flag articles for needing work? Take the Battle of Northwind section of the 5th Deneb Light Cavalry page. It's a giant block o text! Needs chopping up and almost certainly (though I haven't read through it yet) will need some editing for quality. Thanks in advance! TheVengeant (talk) 17:19, 22 August 2020 (EDT)

The most common method is to flag the article with the {{cleanup}} tag. Help:Cleanup is your guide on the subject. I also recommend having a look at the template gallery, which features other tags that can be used for more specific issues, like {{refimprove}} and {{verylong}}. Some of these are reported out on the BattleTechWiki:ToDo list as current issues that need to be addressed. Tosta Dojen (talk) 15:19, 23 August 2020 (EDT)

Pat on the back[edit]

It just had to be said: You've pretty much come out of nowhere and right off the bat contributed edits of the highest quality, the kind usually only seen from seasoned veterans. Clearly you have significant wiki experience and are also very knowledgeable about BattleTech. Very happy that you found our little site and decided to contribute. Carry on! :) Frabby (talk) 15:40, 23 August 2020 (EDT)

I wanted to add a PoB as well. Great work on Task Force Serpent and Battle of Huntress in particular, but I'm also a fan of the work you're doing on the "Update Needed" utility.--Cache (talk) 17:43, 24 December 2020 (EST)

InfoBoxStateUnit[edit]

Since you've just used the InfoBoxStateUnit in your sandbox, I should probably point out that this infobox is obsolete and deprecated. (Only the sheer number of articles is keeping it alive.) Same with InfoBoxMercUnit. See Template talk:InfoBoxMercUnit#Merge with InfoBoxStateUnit. The new summary infobox to be used is Template:InfoBoxMilitaryCommand. Frabby (talk) 04:56, 29 August 2020 (EDT)

Thanks for letting me know. I was troubleshooting an issue where the image on 50th Shadow Division wasn't obeying the size specification, and used InfoBoxStateUnit only because that's what was already in the article. I'll take care to use the preferred template in the future, and try to update the ones I see that are deprecated. Tosta Dojen (talk) 12:49, 29 August 2020 (EDT)

Template:Update Needed[edit]

I rolled back your changes to Template:Update Needed because it was causing display issues with the site. I uploaded a screenshot so you can see what I'm referring to. I think the wiki was having an issue the number of brackets and braces, but the cause of the problem wasn't obvious. Sorry about having to do this. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 02:10, 18 December 2020 (EST)

Thanks for being on top of that. It looks like the error arises because the new bit expects the parameter to be a "Page" (an article), but in some cases the {{Update Needed}} tag is being used to identify more than one source. "Era Report: 3062" is an article, but "Era Report: 3062 and Wars of Reaving" isn't. I was planning to address that by having the template accept multiple parameters—it seems we should do that part first. Tosta Dojen (talk) 08:50, 18 December 2020 (EST)
Let me know when you have everything addressed and I'll delete the screenshot. Good luck on the fix. Thanks. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 09:30, 18 December 2020 (EST)
I've changed the Property so that it expects Text rather than a Page. I think that's taken care of the errors, and it still works effectively. Check it out and let me know. Tosta Dojen (talk) 11:14, 18 December 2020 (EST)
Looks good! Thanks for the work. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 11:55, 18 December 2020 (EST)

Unit Inbobox[edit]

Hi,

Are you doing all the mercenary units? I've started with other commands, but just to know and not "overwrite" our work.--Pserratv (talk) 03:24, 18 December 2020 (EST)

Yes, I decided to tackle the instances of InfoBoxMercUnit because it seemed manageable. I'm not systematically working on InfoBoxStateUnit at present. Tosta Dojen (talk) 08:53, 18 December 2020 (EST)
