Vincent was located in Federated Suns space as of 3025, and was mentioned alongside New Cleveland and Emerson as one of the transit worlds between New Avalon and Stein's Folly.

System Description

It is situated no more than a single jump (ca. 30 light-years) from Argyle, and implicitly no more than two jumps from Ral.

System History

Ardan Sortek and his associates traveled from Vincent to Argyle "in much the same fashion" as they had from Ral to an unspecified other system: They had commandeered one of several JumpShips that had been recharging their drives at the jump point. This in turn establishes that Vincent was frequented by JumpShips, though it does not necessarily mean the system was inhabited. Context suggests that Vincent, like previous stopover systems on Sortek's route (namely Dragon's Field, Hamlin, and Ral), may have been a military transit system (see Notes below).

Notes

• Dragon's Field, Hamlin, Ral, Vincent and New Cleveland were never mentioned except in this one novel nor shown on any published map, as far as can be determined. As such, their existence is canon but their exact location and even nature is unclear.
  • The Federated Suns–and indeed all Successor States–have been known to make use of secret transit systems in their space, uninhabited (or sparsely inhabited) systems used as recharging stopovers for their militaries. Dragon's Field, Hamlin, Ral and Vincent might be such transit systems.
  • There is an official ruling on the BattleTech Forum (in the "Ask the Writers" section, which is reserved for official rulings) by Øystein Tvedten, Catalyst Game Labs' designated map expert, to the effect that the 3025 era maps are deemed "complete" and there are no inhabited systems that don't show up on the maps (except for Hidden Systems). Any unmapped worlds could thus be assumed to be secondary settled planets in star systems that go by different names on the map, or otherwise be codenames or secondary names.
• In the novel's German edition, Dragon's Field, Hamlin, Ral and Vincent were exchanged for Novaya Zemlya, Kluane, Salem, and Freisland, respectively, but available data for Novaya Zemlya is incompatible with the known data for Dragon's Field and the systems do not line up for jumps as described in the novel.
