Winston "Doc" Davis was born on Loric and from a young age started tinkering with anything mechanical—and of course BattleMechs. He went to serve in the Thirteenth Marik Militia as a field technician till he was wounded by an artillery barrage from his own forces resulting in permanent hearing loss in his left ear.
After recovering, and feeling he deserved more, he decided to go independent, landing in 3030 on Solaris VII where he started working for several small stables and gaining a reputation for quality work. He got his first good change when he was hired by the now-defunct White Lancers Cooperative where over the course of several years he became their chief technician, being by 3043 a renowned technician with a very good reputation, and with rates that only the wealthiest stables could afford. His inflamed ego though got the best of him and he rarely stayed more than a year with any employer.
In 3053, he started working with the independent Class V fighter Burke Kale. He did learn a lot on advanced Inner Sphere Technology and also a lot on Clan Tech from Kale, and even a bit more from his works on the Prometheus.[1]
Character Traits[edit]
Winston Davis is nearly bald and with just a trace of hair left over each ear. He wears a hearing aid to compensate for the damage he took to his eardrum while a technician for the Marik Militia. He has a dour outlook on life and a crafty personality that has helped him to stay alive. His ego and unflagging desire for money drove him to start selling information of his employers to the highest bidders, something that would cost his life if known. He has not been able to stop rumors painting him as a low-level informant for House Marik's SAFE. All this changed when he started working with Professor Kale. His arrogant avarice shifted to craven cowardice when he saw who had parted. He saw he was working for a dangerous lunatic and was trying desperately to figure a way out, maybe with the help of his Marik allies and selling all he knew on Professor Kale.[1]

His service in the Marik Militia is strange as Loric is an Lyran world, this could either be an error or a defection, but Unbound does not give details on this.
His reputation and survival after Unbound is not clear, being close to zero if his allegiances became known to the general public.[citation needed]
