Character Profile
Affiliation House Cassidy
Rank Rear Admiral[1]
Title(s) Viscount[2]

Rear Admiral Zachariah Cassidy was a senior officer with the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, and later a mercenary commander, with a Noble Title granted by First Prince Julian Davion.[1][2]

History[edit]

Fourth Ceti Hussars[edit]

Cassidy commanded the Fourth Ceti Hussars during the Capellan Confederation's Operation CELESTIAL REWARD, as part of which the First Liao Dragoons raided Valexa, where the Hussars were based. In the course of this raid the Liao Dragoons were able to badly maul the Fourth Ceti Hussars, after they managed to drive between the Hussars and the Valexa Capellan March Militia, and the Valexa CMM's Leftenant General Allastair Beaverbrook refused to deploy his command to assist the Hussars. While Beaverbrook claimed he was prevented by coming to the Hussars aid by the Dragoons' artillery, later investigations suggested the Capellans had only minimal artillery support, in the form of a lance of Arrow IV-equipped Catapults.[3]

Frustrated by this betrayal, Rear Admiral Cassidy and his troops no longer wanted to conduct any joint operations with Capellan March forces, and by 3145 Cassidy had requested that AFFS High Command transfer his Regiment back to its homeworld of Victoria.[4][1]

Mercenary Career[edit]

In 3151, Cassidy remained in command of the Hussars, though was considering requesting the Hussars be allowed to leave the AFFS to reform the mercenary Lexington Combat Group. This desire was based on the hope that mercenary status would give the Hussars greater freedom to fight in their preferred manner, and that it would hopefully strengthened the Federated Suns by saving the state on the costs of maintaining the unit. This came to pass under First Prince Julian Davion's program to offer nonhereditary peerages to mercenary units who would help in the recovery of New Avalon, with Cassidy accepting a viscounty on Tecumseh, and the Fourth being decommissioned to become mercenaries.[2]
