History

The Arcturan Guards brigade was originally founded as the Capitol Guards when the Lyran Commonwealth was founded as a nation in 2341, and the brigade changed its name to the Arcturan Guards sixty years later when the government of the Commonwealth was relocated from Arcturus to Tharkad. The Seventh Arcturan Guards would have been one of the nine founding units of the Guards, and like the other Guards units would have been named for a muse from ancient mythology, but the Seventh had evidently either become a casualty of the Age of War or had been deactivated as a command during the Star League era.[1]

The Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces recruited the Eleventh Royal Heavy Assault Regiment in 2782. A Star League Defense Force command, the Eleventh had been a part of XXVII Corps[2] within the SLDF Eleventh Army,[3][2] but were redesignated as the Seventh Arcturan Guards when they joined the LCAF.[3]

Notes

  • The Seventh Arcturan Guards appear to have been casualties of the later Succession Wars.
  • Based upon the detail available on the first nine regiments of the Arcturan Guards in Field Report: Lyran Commonwealth 2765 the two regiments from the first founding of the Guards that had been destroyed or disbanded by 2765, the Sixth and Seventh Arcturan Guards, would most likely have been named for the Greek Muses Polyhymhnia and Urania, although it is uncertain which regiment was named for which muse. Polyhymnia was the Muse associatd with sacred poetry, sacred hymn, dance, and eloquence as well as agriculture and pantomime while Urania was the Muse associated with astronomy.
