The Ares system is the location of at least one inhabited world - Ares VIII - and as at 3145 is located in the Capellan Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[2][3]

System Description

The Ares system is located near the Lhasa and Staffin systems[4] and consists of a class M1IV primary star orbited by at least eight planets. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the zenith jump point within the system.[1]

System History

The Ares system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra[5] and became a member of the Capellan Hegemony when that early interstellar nation formed in 2270.[6]

Ares VIII

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Ares VIII - more commonly known simply as Ares - is the eighth planet in the Ares system and has a single moon named Aphrodite. Ares has been home to a number of facilities belonging to various defense industries and is associated with the interstellar treaty known as the Ares Convention.

Planetary History

Early History

During the era of the Terran Alliance Ares was one of the founding members of the Capellan Co-Prosperity Sphere negotiated by the Capellan ruler Jurdan Aris between 2220 and 2225.[5][7] In exchange for the continued free and open exchange of information with Capella, Ares and the other nations of the pact - which included Kurragin and Bandora - would come to the defense of Capella if it found itself under attack from hostile parties.[7]

That prophesied attack came in 2225 when Emmanuel Denevieve Brunn, the third Premier of the Sarna Supremacy, responded to fears that the growing strength of the Capellan Republic threatened the Supremacy, launched an attack on Capella. Just five days after landing and securing key installations across Capella, Brunn found forces from Ares and the other Co-Prosperity Sphere members arriving in orbit, and just two weeks later the Sarna forces had been driven off Capella.[7]

As a member of the Capellan Co-Prosperity Sphere, Ares became a de facto member of the Capellan Hegemony when the Hegemony came into being in 2270.[6]

Ares is the site where the Ares Conventions were signed on June 13, 2412.[8]

Succession Wars

During the Succession Wars, Ares was a commercial free port. The world was known for its exemptions from local import duties, which in turn stimulated trade. As a result Ares was one of the few smaller worlds that was prosperous.[9] Ares was also the birth place of Talon Zahn.[10]

Jihad

In the Jihad era, it also housed a CCAF Regional Training Facility that trained tankers and infantry.[11]
