Description[edit]

The Caliban Nebula, also called the Veil of the Protector and Kerensky's Cloak by the Clans,[1] is a large, elongated body of interstellar dust and gas in the Deep Periphery. Situated coreward of the Inner Sphere at roughly 1,000 light years from its Periphery borders, the Caliban Nebula blocks all view of the Kerensky Cluster and Pentagon Worlds from the Inner Sphere. However, radio communications like the Voice of the Protector are still capable of penetrating the nebula.

The displacement between Clan Homeworlds and the Inner Sphere itself allowed the Clans many centuries of anonymity. The Veil may shroud Clanspace from other Deep Periphery denizens and Spheroids intent on searching the Coreward Periphery for the Exodus Fleet, but in practice a determined search party like the CSV Outbound Light was still able to discover the Clans.[2]

No information on its approximate size or volume has been recorded to date, but it seems to be a celestial body of at least 400 light years length, measured anti-spinward to spinward.
