The Carnwath Militia was the militia unit assigned to defend Carnwath.[1]

The militia was deployed forward from Carnwath to garrison the world of Sabik after Sabik had been liberated by allied coalition forces as a part of Operation SCOUR, Mather was serving as a Colonel within the militia.[1]
On Sabik the deployed militia forces concentrated on the rebuilding efforts while the 9th Sword of Light guarded the Blakist prisoners of war and took responsibility for planetary security. In early 3077 Colonel John Mather, the commanding officer of the Militia contingent filed a report with the Lyran intelligence services alleging that he and the militia had observed the 9th Sword of Light forces committing atrocities against their prisoners.[1]
