The Crofton system was home to at least one habitable world, Crofton III, and as at 3145 was located in the Anjin Muerto Operational Area of the Periphery March within the Federated Suns.[2][3]

System Description

The Crofton system is located near the Steinhatchee and Zolfo systems[2][3] and consists of a class F9V primary orbited by at least three planets. During the thirty-first century recharge stations were in place at both the system nadir and zenith jump points.[1]

System History

The Crofton system was colonised during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War.[4][5]

Crofton III

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Crofton III - more commonly known simply as Crofton - is the third planet in the system and for centuries has been home to significant manufacturing facilities belonging to StarCorps.[1]

Planetary History

Star League Era

By the height of the Star League Crofton was the location of a significant percentage of the defense manufacturing that supplied the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. While the overall manufacturing base of the Federated Suns was highly dispersed and diversified, a core group of worlds - New Avalon, Crofton, Kathil, Panpour, Salem and Talcott - supplied move than half of all the equipment used by the AFFS.[6]

The massive StarCorps Industries plant on Crofton began as a satellite site for the Terran Hegemony-based manufacturer, but such was the quality and technical expertise available within the Federated Suns manufacturing industry that the StarCorps facility continued to expand, and by 2765 it was considered likely that the facility would eventually rival the main StarCorps manufacturing plant on Fletcher.[6]

The world was also known for a sizable infantry recruitment center for the SLDF. [1][7]

The Dark Age

Given its prime location between the Filtvelt Coalition and the Outworlds Alliance, Crofton served as a logistical hub for Armed Forces of the Federated Suns forces in the region. It was also home to one of the largest StarCorps Industries production plants in the Federated Suns. The devastation or destruction of other major industrial complexes on planets such as Galax and New Avalon during the Jihad had increased the importance of the Crofton manufacturing facilities substantially by the end of the Jihad.[1] Despite the rebuilding and reconstruction work going on in the wake of the Jihad the StarCorps plant was unable to expand because of issues with supply lines.[8]
