Description[edit]

The Cyllaros is a medium hybrid combat vehicle/BattleMech known as a QuadVee. The first production model of its kind, the Cyllaros was a proof-of-concept for this type of combat unit. Conceived by the scientist and technician castes of Clan Hell's Horses, the unit's creation was not well received by many among the warrior castes of the other Clans within the Inner Sphere.

The Cyllaros was designed to merge the best qualities of a tracked combat vehicle and quadruped BattleMech. Some of its unusual and unique design features include a two-man cockpit and torso-like turret. The Cyllaros saw its first trial by fire against Clan Jade Falcon in a Trial of Possession for a stockpile of armor in 3136 on the world of Derf. The Horses bid a Binary of troops for the trial, a pair of Cyllaros being included in an all QuadVee Star. However, the QuadVees fared poorly in this first combat action, with four being destroyed including both Cyllaros.

Despite the Cyllaros' defeat in combat, the Horses would continue to produce the 'Mech and other related units as part of ongoing development of the concept. The Cyllaros and others would be deployed to fill in secondary line Galaxies in the Horses touman. Cyllaros were included in Hell's Horses units to claim abandoned Clan Wolf worlds in their Occupation Zone. These forces included Epsilon Galaxy which was assigned a number of QuadVees to fight skirmishes with Clan Ghost Bear. The design would eventually prove that it is serviceable in combat, despite its shortcomings.[2]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The Cyllaros is designed to move a maximum speed of 86 km/h in either its vehicle or 'Mech mode. Powered by a 275-rated fusion engine, the unit can keep up with other units of its weight class, and like others of its kind, damage to the Cyllaros' motor system does not easily disable the unit unlike conventional vehicles. Should its tracks be destroyed, the Cyllaros can transform into its 'Mech configuration and continue to move. Similarly, should its gyro get damaged or even destroyed, it simply can become a vehicle to overcome this damage. The Cyllaros' hull is protected by modest seven and a half tons of Compound H17 ferro-fibrous armor.

The 'Mech's two-man cockpit allows for its dedicated gunner to be able to target up to three enemies without difficulty. However, unlike other QuadVees, the Cyllaros' cockpit was designed to separate its crew from one another, and would prove to be one of the 'Mech's failings.

The Cyllaros' weaponry is all mounted in the 'Mech's turret-like torsos. A Type XV “Crossbow” LRM-15 launcher, found in the center torso, serves as 'Mech's long-range weapon while twin Model VI improved heavy medium lasers are able to inflict significant damage on opponents who engage it at closer ranges. The Tau-II AP Gauss rifles help to deter possible threats by infantry and battle armor. The crew is protected by built-in CASE to safeguard against potential weapon and ammunition detonations.[2]
