Darrel Ingles was the commanding officer of the Tenth Lyran Regulars as of 3062.[1]

History[edit]

Colonel Ingles, serving with the Tenth Lyran Regulars, was stationed on Cavanaugh II in 3062. Ingles had spent half of his career with the Tenth Regulars before receiving command of the unit following the promotion of its previous commander to regional duties. Despite his friendship with the Tenth's old commander, Ingles chose to remain uninvolved in the political fight between his old CO and Margrave Richard Steiner that followed the secession of the Lyran Alliance from the Federated Commonwealth and resulted in the former commander's reassignment to reserve posting.[1]

During the early stages of the Federated Commonwealth Civil War, the commander of the Second Crucis Lancers convinced Ingles to declare his and the Tenth Regulars' support for ex-Prince Victor Steiner-Davion's fight against Archon Katherine Steiner-Davion.[2] While Margrave Richard Steiner was opposed to this development, his covert efforts to gain support for the removal or destruction of the Tenth Regulars did not gain traction until the summer of 3065, when both the Seventh Lyran Regulars and First Bolan Jaegers stated their intent to fight for his cause. Ingles and the Tenth Regulars were completely caught off-guard by the hostile units' arrival and his attempt to secure the world's command bunker failed, leaving him no choice but to entrench the Tenth in Cavanugh II's fortified minefields and defensive emplacements (originally intended to rebuke any invasion efforts from the Free Worlds League). Fortunately for Ingles, his troops' knowledge of the world combined with the Margrave's foolhardy assault on the local 182nd Division of the Com Guards provided him with an unbreakable defensive line and valuable reinforcements by the start of 3066.[3]

After linking up with the 182nd Division, Ingles' Allies spent the winter months launching baiting attacks to lure Steiner's Loyalists into ill-fated assaults against his entrenched troops. When the Penobscot CTM arrived in-system in spring with the Victor-aligned Forty-second Avalon Hussars hot on its tail, the conflict between the two newly-arrived units took center stage for the next few months of the war, with the disastrous micromanagement of Margrave Steiner ultimately causing the CTM's destruction on 19 July - providing Ingles with yet more reinforcements in the form of the Hussars and depriving Steiner of the CTM's aid.[4]

In late September 3066, Ingles' Tenth Regulars engaged in a massive clash against the attacking Seventh Regulars and, with the use of prodigious artillery and airborne strikes, succeeded in breaking his foes' assault and killed the opposing Regulars' commander. With an overwhelming numerical advantage and control of the skies, the advance of the Allies was only slowed when Margrave Steiner's execution of the new Seventh Regulars commander produced an unintended side effect: the mass desertion of Loyalist troops tied up far too many Allied infantrymen for POW-related duties. Taking a gamble, the commander of the Forty-second Avalon Hussars - now in overall command of the Allied forces - released the majority of the now-disarmed defectors on 1 January 3067, allowing the Allies to prepare for a final assault scheduled for February. When the Hussars successfully destroyed the Bolan Jaegers and gained the final surrender of the dejected Seventh Regulars on 5 February, the war for Cavanaugh II was effectively won. However, one sour note remained for the Tenth Regulars: on 7 February, after battling alongside the Forty-second Hussars in order to breach through the Margrave's bodyguards and automated defenses protecting the Cavanaugh command bunker, Ingles and his allies discovered that Richard Steiner had already escaped off-world, disappearing into parts unknown.[5]

After the Civil War ended, Ingles remained in command of the Tenth Regulars and was still stationed on Cavanaugh II by December 3067.[6]
