The David system was home to at least one habitable world, David II, and as at 3145 was located in the Proserpina Prefecture of the Benjamin Military District within the Draconis Combine.[2][3]

System Description

The David system is located near the Fellanin II and Tallassee systems[4] and consists of a class F8IV primary orbited by two planets.[1]

System History

The David system was colonized at some point prior to the end of the Reunification War.[5]

David II

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard David II - more commonly known simply as David - is the second planet in the system.[1]

Planetary History

Early History

Forty percent of David's surface is covered with water. This would not be a problem except for the fact that a microbe in the water table causes severe allergic reactions to anyone who isn't immune to it. The early settlers weren't immune, and some rapid medical engineering was needed to create an effective inoculation. As of 3025, the local population was completely immune to the microbe, but any visitors from other worlds still needed to take inoculations to eat or drink any of the local foodstuffs.[1]

David has many minerals and metal ores in the crust, which attracted the early settlers and which fueled local light industry. David also maintained a small farming operation which provided enough food to feed the population, but not enough to export, even if the presence of the microbe in all plants and animals from David wouldn't have rendered such an export operation futile.[1]

Succession Wars

First Succession War

An Armed Forces of the Federated Suns raid struck David in February 2787. Jinjiro Kurita, Warlord and son of the Coordinator, had been massing forces for an invasion of the Federated Suns for some time, and had issued strict orders to his forces that in advance of the invasion, any encounters with the AFFS were to be met with the minimum possible force, to maintain the deception that the Dragon was focused on the Lyran Commonwealth - even if that meant losing personnel or worlds.[6]

In accordance with Jinjiro's instructions, the Third Arkab Legion used only half its forces to battle the raiders - a mixed force consisting of elements of the Fourteenth Avalon Hussars, supported by a battalion from the 1894th Light Horse Regiment, a former Star League Defense Force unit operating now as a part of the Blue Star Irregulars mercenary unit - giving the impression of resistance without revealing either the true strength of the Legion or the presence of the Third Dieron Regulars on the planet. After an hour-long battle near the port city of Sassari the AFFS raiders apparently forced the Legion to withdraw, allowing the raiders to loot supplies and munitions from warehouses, although in truth the withdrawal was simply a show, and the stores contained within those warehouses had been reduced deliberately after the DCMS detected the inbound raiders.[6]

The AFFS forces only remained on David for a week, as they lacked the numbers to turn the raid into a full invasion, and whilst they conducted a number of air patrols during that week, they failed to detect the hidden bases in the depths of the Northern Andropo badlands, or any of the vehicle bunkers that had been constructed to resemble transient villages along the Fatima River Basin, leaving the AFFS content that it had adequately tested the Combine's border defenses.[6]

Fourth Succession War

During the early months of the Fourth Succession War Coordinator Takashi Kurita was focused on his conflict with the Wolf's Dragoons mercenary brigade, but following pleas for help from Chancellor Maximilian Liao the DCMS planned and launched additional offensives against perceived weak spots on the Federated Suns border. The Galtor Thumb region was one such weak spot, and David was invaded by Brion's Legion and the Ninth Dieron Regulars, two regiments assigned to the Dieron Military District under the command of Warlord Vasily Cherenkoff. The deployment of the Ninth and Brion's Legion bore the hallmarks of an internal political move within the DCMS - a consequence of Cherenkoff trying to deny Theodore Kurita the use of his troops - and the opening stages of the battle for David between the two Combine regiments and the Twelfth Deneb Light Cavalry were largely inconclusive. Helping the Light Cavalry's efforts was a combination of a planetary militia determined to help thwart the invader's efforts, and a civilian population that aided the Light Cavalry when it could.[7]

While the lull in major offensives in early 3029 gave the Light Cavalry a chance to regroup, the renewed offensive launched by the two DCMS regiments in May caught the Light cavalry by surprise. Marshal Petroff Haveson tried to break contact with the two enemy regiments, but could only manage to avoid one at a time, forcing his hand. He formed the Light Cavalry into a defensive formation at Danson's Hill, and used subterfuge to trick Colonel Pythonius Brion into revealing himself - allowing the Light Cavalry to target him specifically when Brion's Legion attacked. With Colonel Brion dead, the Legion broke and ran, with the Light Cavalry in hot pursuit.[8]

Afraid of the consequences of their cowardice and ashamed of their actions, the Legion ran to the ComStar compound at the HPG and requested sanctuary, leaving the Ninth to fight alone. ComStar eventually picked up the contract for Brion's Legion, and Takahashi Kurita was happy to see their contract with the Combine dissolved, citing the Dragon's lack of need for a collection of cowardly flower-sniffers. The campaign for David swung firmly in favor of the AFFS in June 3029, when the Forty-first Avalon Hussars returned to David and relieved the Light Cavalry. Heavily outnumbered, the Ninth retreated from David, leaving the planet under Federated Suns control.[8]

The Jihad

Having been subject to a number of deep raids across several worlds by Federated Suns commandos and Draconis March forces seeking POWs from the FedCom Civil War in early August 3068[9], the Draconis Combine retaliated by launching a series of raids and attacks against Federated Suns worlds. The retaliatory attacks took place in the second week of September, and David was one of the worlds captured by Combine forces, to be precise by the First Ghost Regiment.[10][11]
