System Information
X:Y Coordinates215.065 : 74.397[e]

The Deshler system is the location of at least one habitable world and as at 3145 was located in the Matsuida Prefecture of the New Samarkand Military District within the Draconis Combine.[1][2]

System Description

The Deshler system is located near the Harpster and Marduk systems.[1][2]

System History

The Deshler system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra.[3]

Planetary History

Star League

During the final years of the Star League, Deshler was the host to a Star League Defense Force garrison.[38]

Third Succession War

In January 3025 the Draconis Combine launched an attack on Deshler to distract the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns from the upcoming campaign for Galtor III. Stationed on Deshler at the time were the Fourth Davion Guards RCT and the Raman Draconis March Militia; Deshler was a key border world and the site of a damaged but still valuable former BattleMech factory, Aghama 'Mechworks. The Combine deployed several commands from the noted mercenary unit Wolf's Dragoons to capture Deshler. The Dragoons landed Beta and Gamma Regiments and the heavyweight Zeta Battalion on Deshler, with Colonel Wilhelmina Korsht leading Gamma regiment against the Raman DMM at Valerian Bay whilst Beta regiment moved to capture the 'Mechworks.[39]

Expecting relatively light resistance, Beta instead found themselves up against the elite Fourth Davion Guards. Shostokovitch and Beta were forced to land far to northwest of Aghama valley, in the barrens. Beta Regiment was ambushed by Davion armor during their advance, throwing them behind schedule. As the whole regiment advanced into the valley, the Guards appeared to have fallen back. The Fourth, nicknamed "Dragon’s Bane", launched a massive ambush from hidden positions, using their combined-arms tactics to cut off Beta's heavier elements from their light recon companies. Captain Ramon Magdaleno's Baker-Third company was nearly overwhelmed, surrounded by Davion infantry and unable to withdraw or advance. The Betas would rally, however, around Major Anton Ivanovitch's Charlie Battalion, the "Red Guard", one of the most disciplined units within the Dragoons. The Red Guard formed a perimeter, giving Shostokovitch time to regroup and rescue the remnants of Magdaleno's company. The Dragoons slowly advanced, facing heavy resistance the entire way. With the support of Zeta Battalion, they were finally able to take the factories in early April, only to find that they'd been stripped of all valuable equipment. Two weeks later, with the aid of elements of the Seventh Kommando, Gamma Regiment was able to force a cessation of hostilities in Valerian Bay, inflicting serious damage on the Fourth Davions' conventional assets. Deshler briefly fell into House Kurita's hands. However, as the Combine attack on Marduk had failed and the Galtor campaign itself was headed towards disaster, Deshler was at risk of being cutoff. Takashi Kurita reluctantly ordered the Dragoons to withdraw. Although they had taken heavy damage and were unable to hold the planet, the Dragoons had succeeded in their primary task of preventing the Fourth Guards from joining in the defense of Galtor, although the Raman DMM would later see action in that campaign.[39][40][41][42]

Fourth Succession War

During the Fourth Succession War, the First Chisholm's Raiders RCT was assigned to defend Deshler, which was targeted by Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery taskforce consisting of the Sixth and Third Benjamin Regulars, backed up by twenty infantry and tank regiments. While the Raiders consistently outmaneuvered the invaders, the Kurita taskforce had superior numbers, slowly but progressively wearing the Davion unit down. In June 3029, when the Combine offensive had swept past Deshler and the Raiders were down to less than half-strength, the AFFS attempted to pull them out. Marshal Melford Dennis felt that the Federated Suns would be best served by the Raiders continuing to tie up the two DCMS 'Mech regiments and their supporting forces as long as possible, so he sent the DropShips and JumpShips assigned to carry them to safety back empty. The Raiders held out for another month before being effectively destroyed, tying up the Combine forces on planet for as long as possible at the cost of their lives.[19][20] [43]

Geography

Oceans cover eighty percent of the surface of Deshler. These oceans are frequently filled with red algae that reminds observers of blood. The few continents are rugged, covered in rocky mountains and thick jungles. High winds also sweep through the mountains. Sinkholes and hot springs are also common, particularly on the continent of Gaugain.[51]

Planetary Locations

  • Aghama Valley - the location of Aghama 'Mechworks on Gaugain.[52]
  • Valerian Bay - the site of a major battle between elements of Wolf's Dragoons and the Raman DMM in 3025.[16]
  • The Exchange - One of the Star League's commerce cities, intended to help bond together the economies of the Star League's six member states, The Exchange was also a mint printing Star League Dollars for the Draconis Combine and Federated Suns. The Exchange would be destroyed during the Second Succession War. [53] [54]
