Electric Discharge ProtoMech Armor

Description[edit]

Electric Discharge ProtoMech Armor was developed by Scientist Glenneth of Clan Fire Mandrill in 3066. By 3071 the Mandrills and The Society had perfected the armor. To maximize the damage generated by a ProtoMech's physical attack, Glenneth wove a series of compound capacitors through the armor. These capacitors draw power from the ProtoMech's fusion engine, storing an electrical charge. When a ProtoMech with EDP armor performs a physical attack the capacitors discharge and subject the target to a taser-like effect.[1][2]

Game Rules[edit]

Electric Discharge ProtoMech Armor weighs 75 kg per point. It occupies one location in the Torso, reducing the maximum number of items in Torso location by one. It is Experimental Technology that is only available to ProtoMechs.[1] EDP armor costs 1,250 C-bills per armor point.[3] When computing Battle Value the armor value is calculated as for standard armor, then add 32 points as if it's a weapon.[4]

When executing a Frenzy attack with active EDP armor, consult the BattleMech Taser Effects Table using the BattleMech Taser type columns. Apply a -2 penalty to the 2D6 roll for determining the armor's effects. Resolve the effects using normal BattleMech Taser rules.

If the Frenzy attack is against conventional infantry add one point of damage to the base damage value for that ProtoMech's Frenzy Attack. This damage bonus increases to two points if the infantry has cybernetic enhancements.

After discharging the armor needs six turns to recharge, during which time none of the weapons that require heat sinks will function. These six turns do not need to be consecutive; The ProtoMech player can choose in each End Phase not to charge the armor on the next turn. Each turn that EDP armor is charged must be marked on the ProtoMech's record sheet.

If a ProtoMech with EDP suffers one or more critical hits to the Torso, resolve the critical hit and then immediately assign 5 points of damage to the torso to indicate the damage caused by the capacitors stored there discharging their stored electricity wildly.[1][5]
