History[edit]

Elijah Satoh was a Tai-sa in the DCMS. During the Combine operations on Barlow's End in September 3026, where the Wolf's Dragoons-trained Ryuken had their first real combat deployment, Satoh was an officer in the Ryuken.

The operation was undermined by the fact that the Dragoons' liaison officer, Jerry Akuma, secretly worked against Ryuken commander Minobu Tetsuhara in an effort to make Wolf's Dragoons look bad.

The Dragoons, together with the Ryuken, formulated a sound battle plan. Once this was done, a saboteur (implicitly, either Akuma himself or one of his operatives) sabotaged Tetsuhara's hovercar during the night and planted explosive charges. When the carges went off, Tetsuhara tried to reach the HQ in his hovercar but it crashed; he was heavily wounded and evacuated on a DropShip where Akuma came with him. That removed both the Ryuken CO and the Dragoons' liaison officer. Satoh was subsequently put in command of the operation by Akuma.

Eliah Satoh was an arrogant and incompetent officer, refusing to enter the Dragoon's Mobile HQ and ordering a prefabricated hut erected to send the message that he was in charge, not the Dragoons. When the operation encountered far stronger resistance than expected in the form of the White Witches and Eridani Light Horse mercenaries, Satoh proved unable to adapt to the changing situation as the attack unraveled and Combine and Dragoon forces fell back. He insisted on sticking to the plan, regardless of its viability, and stoically relied on the assumption that it would work even though the circumstances had changed dramatically. The Wolf's Dragoons forces who had aimed at capturing a certain prototype device (apparently, the objective of the entire operation) were instead forced to destroy it and retreat, and Satoh suffered a breakdown, refusing to evacuate or adapt even as his HQ came under attack on the following day. As the Light Horse demanded their surrender, Satoh, still clinging to an outdated battle plan, continued to give orders to subordinates already reported captured or killed, operating off maps hours out of date even as Ryuken headquarters troops fled. His last orders effectively amounted to useless deaths for his men. At that point, Michi Noketsuna decided Satoh was a liability for the remaining Ryuken and shot him with a pistol when they were alone in the abandoned HQ on 4 October 3026.[1]
