Francine Ross was a Leutnant-General in the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces in the mid-thirty-second century.
History[edit]
Francine Ross served in the Twenty-fifth Arcturan Guards during Clan Wolf's invasion of the Lyran Commonwealth and was one of the few surviving ranking officers from that shattered regiment after it participated in the Defense of Tharkad. Her combat record there led to Ross' reassignment as CO of the Seventeenth Arcturan Guards.[2]
Battle of Coventry[edit]
Posted to Coventry with her regiment, Ross was the initial commander of the Lyran defense when Clan Jade Falcon attacked that world in 3148. Her opposite number, Galaxy Commander Stephanie Chistu, rejected Ross' request for a batchall and made it clear to her that the tactics used during the previous battle for Coventry a century earlier would be of no avail. Nonetheless, despite lowering morale among her soldiers and suffering the loss of two-thirds of her force, Ross' effective use of hit-and-run attacks kept the Falcons from obtaining victory until reinforcements arrived.[3][4][5]
Upon the arrival of General of the Armies Roderick Steiner and Jasek Kelswa-Steiner, Ross assisted the two generals with advice and intelligence gained on the Falcons, particularly Chistu. After Kelswa-Steiner's death in battle, Roderick Steiner placed her in command of the Fifteenth Arcturan Guards (now incorporating the surviving members of the Seventeenth). Following Steiner's prebattle speech to the LCAF troops, Ross was the first to be anointed with ash from Kelswa-Steiner's urn, boosting her and the troops' morale.[5][6]
After Steiner lured the Falcons into a fight at the Ochoa River, Ross mounted a behind-the-lines DropShip insertion at Port St. William that stunned Chistu into accepting a Circle of Equals with Steiner. After her defeat, Chistu met with Steiner and Ross and complimented the latter on her tactics.[7]
