History[edit]

Operation REVIVAL[edit]

Two Clusters from Gamma were among the five Khan Ian Hawker bid for the Battle of Tukayyid, assigned to take the secondary target city of Urcunat. Unprepared for the Com Guard Eighth Army's tactics, both clusters found their advance stalled and were reassigned to combat attacks from Thirty-first, Fifty-sixth and Eighty-fifth Divisions against the Sharks supply lines. Winning the bid to destroy the raiders, the 222nd Assault Cluster quickly encountered the green Eighty-fifth Division, but neither side were able to gain the advantage over the other as the fighting became increasingly brutal.[1][2][3][4]

After the Eighty-fifth tied up the Shark's supply lines for an entire day, Star Colonel Seth Davis's patience ran out, breaking batchall to order the 369th Striker Cluster to assist in obliterating the infuriating Eighty-Fifth. While the Eighty-fifth finally crumbled in the face of both clusters, the victory was especially costly for the Sharks with the doomed division taking the 222nd down with them and the Thirty-first and Fifty-sixth Divisions avenging the sacrifice of the Eighty-fifth by tearing the 369th apart. The losses suffered by both Clusters were so extensive that the Diamond Shark Khans opted to disband both, dispersing their survivors to other Clusters, primarily Alpha Galaxy's Thirty-Ninth Striker. [1] [2] [3] [4]

To rebuild Gamma Galaxy, Angus Labov turned to more experienced warriors from Spina and Garrison Galaxies as well as reservists who had excellent skills. This resulted in a unit whose average age was higher than the norm. After being rebuilt by Angus Labov, Gamma proved itself by fighting the Jade Falcons on Tokasha.[5]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

Gamma Galaxy was responsible for the capture of Twycross[6] in 3065. The Diamond Sharks had been drawing down their assets in the Clan Homeworlds since 3062, and in 3064 the Diamond Sharks offered their holdings on Lum to the Jade Falcons in exchange for a pledge on the Twycross system. The Jade Falcons were more than happy to do so, having declared the system cursed and renounced their claim to it, but the Diamond Sharks had the best of the deal.[7] SaKhan Angus Labov deployed a trinary from the Emerald Skate and elements of the Eighth Assault and Twenty-eighth Cruiser Clusters to capture the world, defeating Archer's Avengers.[6] Having captured the system, the Diamond Sharks established holdings on Twycross and on Jonah's Reach, a near-lifeless world in the Twycross system. The Falcons subsequently discovered that Jonah's Reach was a source of harjel, and that they had ceded to the Diamond Sharks a system that could've broken the Shark monopoly on harjel.[7]

The Jihad[edit]

Between 3065 and 3079 Gamma Galaxy was stationed on Twycross. Though the majority of the Galaxy had been seen by observers, the Emerald Skate and the WarShip assigned to the Eighth Assault Cluster weren't seen in the system. Their location was a mystery.[8] Gamma Galaxy was on Twycross when Blakist sympathizers launched the Bloody Tricentennial attacks that struck across the Inner Sphere. On Twycross, the Trellshire Heavy Industries plant was destroyed in a nuclear explosion intended to both destroy the factory and the garrisoning Clan Diamond Shark forces from Gamma who had been lured to the plant by a series of earlier explosions. Despite taking damage in a brutal dust storm attempting to find the terrorists, Gamma's hunt was fruitless; the remains of the terrorists, still inside their vehicle, were found a month after the attacks, buried under a sand dune.[9]

By 3085, Gamma Galaxy's lead Cluster was the Jasper Skate, a unit that hadn't been observed in the Inner Sphere for a decade before its reappearance. The bulk of Gamma had relocated to Itabaiana, but the Twenty-eighth Cruiser Cluster had been detached and stationed aboard the Carrack-class transport Devourer, which had been left crippled and immobile in the Twycross system by an accident.[9]

Tactics[edit]

In the fighting on Tokasha against the Jade Falcons, Gamma Galaxy used the Emerald Skate to lure the Falcons out of position. The Eighth Assault Cluster then opened a gap in the Falcon's lines, and the Twenty-Eighth Cruiser Cluster then drove through the gap and struck at the Falcon's rear. This forced the Falcons to withdraw.[5]
